Senior System Engineer (Cloud Native, 80-100%, Remote-First) - ID260507

For around 25 years Adfinis has been driving digital transformation through open standards and technologies, shaping a world of innovative, sustainable, and resilient IT solutions built on reliable open-source technology.

Our Swiss-based Cloud Native stream, consisting of 25 professionals, collaborates closely with clients to support them in their organizational and technical journey into the cloud-native world. We design, build, and manage critical cloud-based IT infrastructures, relying on our proven, standardized tool stack for container platforms, security measures, and CI/CD solutions.

To expand our team, we’re seeking a Senior System Engineer. In this role, you will lead challenging customer projects and act as the Single Point of Contact for select Service Level Agreements.

Tasks

What You Will Do with Us

• Act as the technical lead on complex projects, ensuring quality standards are met.
• Lead technical discussions with demanding stakeholders, align expectations, and turn ambiguity into clear next steps.
• Anticipate organizational and delivery risks, and address them early through structured communication in complex, high-pressure customer environments.
• Manage complex, critical systems, apply updates, and resolve incidents to keep them on track.
• Plan and implement sophisticated (multi-)cloud or on-premises platforms.
• Provide comprehensive support, tackle high-priority issues, and assist junior and professional team members in critical situations.

Requirements

Must-Have Hard Skills

• Five to eight years of experience as a system engineer in cloud environments.
• A strong DevOps background: CNCF and HashiCorp stacks, GitLab, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Helm, DevSecOps, IaC, and GitOps are your bread and butter.
• Broad experience in software development, cloud migration, and platform engineering.
• Strong networking skills and the ability to translate advanced concepts into smart network designs.
• Ability to identify security vulnerabilities early and address them effectively.
• Expertise in improving automations and building new ones to enhance operations.
• A sound understanding of how to align technology, architecture, and business requirements in complex customer environments.

Must-Have Soft Skills

• You understand client needs, navigate demanding stakeholder situations with clarity and tact, and build strong, trust-based relationships.
• You identify risks and dependencies early, address them proactively, and create clarity in complex situations.
• You thrive on challenges and see solutions where others see problems.
• Quality matters to you, and you take full responsibility for your work.
• You work hands-on, support others in critical moments, and keep the right stakeholders aligned.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Proficiency in both written and spoken German.
• GitLab, IBM (HashiCorp), Red Hat, and/or SUSE certifications.
• Experience with SUSE products.
• AWS, Azure, and/or GCP certifications.

Benefits

• We're REALLY serious about Open Source. Keeping things transparent and accessible, supporting collaboration, and bigging up the community, it's not just what we do; it's who we are.
• Full-time or part-time, working on-site or logging in from your couch; the choice is yours. Thinking of jetting off for a bit? Hit us up in advance, and we'll probably sort it out.
• Pick Your Poison: Emacs, Nano, or Vim? Arch, Manjaro, or TempleOS? Whatever tools or distro make you deliver that sweet, sweet system engineering performance, it's all up to you. No Microsoft products, tho.
• Being right in the sweet spot between a small tech shack and a big corporation, we keep it real with a down-to-earth attitude, solid business processes, and speedy decisions.
• We're all about that growth mindset. Whether it's levelling up your skills, nabbing some new certs, or geeking out at conferences, we've got your back.
