About AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world’s most serious diseases. But we’re more than one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.

Introduction to role:

Are you ready to transform sophisticated, developed evidence for publications that compose scientific understanding and responsible clinical decision-m aking? Based at Manyata Tech Park, Bengaluru, this role places you at the center of high-priority publication programmes where clarity, scientific rigor, and strategic influence directly supply to better outcomes for patients.

Do you thrive at the intersection of scientific depth, collaborator leadership, and operational excellence? As a Specialist in Publication Writing, you will set publication strategy and guide narratives using multi-study and real-world datasets. You will manage customer concerns related to the most challenging disclosures. This helps ensure outputs achieve the highest standards of ethics, visibility, and quality while increasing impact across our portfolio.

Accountabilities:

Publication leadership: Provide end-to-end scientific and delivery leadership for sophisticated, strategically critical, or high-risk publication programmes. Resolve approaches in ambiguous scenarios, align multiple workstreams, and remain accountable for quality, risk management, and outcomes that advance our therapeutic narratives.

Scientific narrative and critical review: Lead writing and guide review for research papers and symposium content involving multi-study, pooled, indirect-comparison, epidemiological, and health-economic evidence. Resolve difficult methodological and interpretive challenges and guide teams to balanced, defensible conclusions.

Sophisticated disclosure strategy: Set the document and evidence strategy for combined data evaluations, detailed analyses, post-hoc assessments, HEOR, and epidemiology publica tions. Anticipate cross-publication dependencies and own escalation for material scientific or delivery risks.

Data interpretation and evidence assessment: Challenge assumptions, evaluate analytical choices, and advise on scientifically sound communication of efficacy, safety, real-world evidence, and health economics. Define and lead all aspects of evidence-synthesis approaches that guide publication planning and future disclosures.

Submission excellence: Direct submission and resubmission strategies for high-priority or challenging publications. Lead responses to substantive reviewer concerns, guide rejection or transfer decisions, resolve authorship issues, and navigate sophisticated editorial queries to secure the right route to publication.

Data visualization standards: Resolve visual approaches for unfamiliar or integrated datasets. Establish standards for clear, responsible figures and guide writers and design partners to innovative, high-quality visual solutions.

Compliance and publication ethics leadership: Interpret and apply Good Publication Practice, ICMJE guidance, and internal policies in sophisticated or precedent-setting situations. Act as the escalation point for authorship, disclosure, visibility, and data-integrity matters, collaborating with governance collaborators on defensible resolutions.

Collaborator influence: Serve as a trusted adviser to publication leaders, authors, investigators, external experts, and cross-functional teams. Resolve competing perspectives, influence decisions without direct authority, and build alignment across interconnected workstreams and programmes.

Capability development: Coach Publication Writers and Senior Publication Writers on sophisticated scientific and operational challenges. Identify capability gaps, design sophisticated learning interventions, and develop guidance that elevates consistency and expertise across the function.

Quality and consistency: Establish and evolve standards, review frameworks, and decision tools for sophisticated publications. Analyze recurring issues, implement systemic improvements, and provide expert oversight for high-risk deliverables.

Innovation and automation: Identify and sponsor high-value opportunities for AI, automation, and new publication approaches. Lead pilots, evaluate implications for scientific integrity and compliance, and scale successful solutions responsibly.

Therapeutic area expertise: Build deep expertise in assigned disease areas and translate knowledge into strategic advice, process improvements, and knowledge sharing that strengthens publication impact and credibility.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in life sciences, pharmacy, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacology, public health or a related discipline.
  • Six to ten years of medical or scientific writing experience, including demonstrated leadership of complex manuscripts and congress disclosures.
  • Advanced understanding of clinical research methods, biostatistics, publication ethics and relevant standards, including Good Publication Practice and ICMJE guidance.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex analyses and communicate scientific evidence clearly, accurately and persuasively.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and organisational skills, with the ability to lead multiple high-priority deliverables.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, reference-management tools, publication-management platforms such as iEnvision and data-visualisation standards.
  • Working knowledge of authorship criteria, data transparency and sharing requirements, journal and congress systems, and development of training content.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Advanced degree such as PharmD, PhD, MD or MPH, or a recognised qualification in medical writing or communications.
  • Experience leading integrated disclosures, including pooled analyses, meta-analyses, health economics and outcomes research, and coordinating multi-author manuscripts through acceptance.
  • Knowledge of one or more relevant therapeutic areas, including Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism; Respiratory and Immunology; Vaccines; and Immune Therapies.
  • Experience collaborating with investigators, external experts and multidisciplinary teams and engaging with journal editors or congress secretariats.
