Vice President, Tax Practice Leadership | Scottsdale, Arizona | $250,000–$350,000/year + estimated $12,000–$15,000 commission
If you’re a CPA who has built, scaled, or led a tax practice and you’re ready to build one from the ground up, this is a chance to shape an entire tax services business.
You’ll work with business owners, particularly companies generating $1M+ in revenue, helping them make smarter decisions around tax strategy, entity structure, growth, transactions, and long-term business performance.
What’s in it for you:
• Build and launch an entire Tax Services practice from the ground up
• Shape the practice’s service offerings, pricing, delivery model, and growth strategy
• Work directly with executive leadership
• Build and lead a high-performing tax organization
• Serve business owners and mid-market companies as a strategic tax advisor
• Join a fast-growing business consulting company with significant career growth potential
• Competitive compensation and benefits
What you’ll do:
• Build the tax practice, including its services, processes, systems, and quality standards
• Develop multi-year growth strategies, revenue goals, staffing plans, and new service lines
• Lead tax planning and strategy for small business and mid-market clients
• Advise on tax liability reduction, entity structures, M&A, acquisitions, partnerships, and business transactions
• Oversee business and individual tax compliance and required federal and state filings
• Hire, develop, and lead CPAs, tax managers, and client service professionals
• Establish technical standards, training, performance expectations, and career development programs
• Build scalable tax workflows, technology infrastructure, and operational processes
• Ensure compliance with professional, ethical, regulatory, and IRS requirements
• Leverage modern tax technology and AI to improve research, compliance, and efficiency
• Grow the practice through the existing client base, referrals, cross-selling, and strategic relationships
What you bring:
• Active CPA license
• 10+ years of progressive public accounting or tax advisory experience
• At least 5 years of tax leadership or management experience
• Deep expertise in business and individual taxation, tax planning, compliance, entity structuring, pass-through taxation, and transactional tax advisory
• Proven experience building, launching, scaling, or significantly growing a tax practice or service line
• Experience serving small business and middle-market companies with approximately $1M–$100M in revenue
• Proven ability to hire, manage, develop, and retain high-performing tax teams
• Strong executive-level client communication skills
• Ability to explain complex tax strategies in clear, practical, business-focused terms
Experience with founder-led businesses, high-growth environments, modern tax technology, or AI tools is strongly preferred. An MST, JD/LLM, or other advanced taxation degree is also preferred.
If you’ve already proven you can lead tax at a high level and want the opportunity to build the practice, team, and strategy from the ground up, this is a role where your leadership can define the future of the function.
