Description
Under regular supervision, responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing inclusive recreational programs and services for individuals with and without disabilities. Does related work as required.
Plans and oversees recreational activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being for individuals with and without disabilities; collaborates with community partners to support inclusive programming; serve as a liaison between families, caregivers, and program staff to facilitate communication and support; Assist with Special Olympics North Carolina of Forsyth County programs Participate in community outreach to promote specialized and adaptive; recreation opportunities; provide direct support to participants as needed to ensure successful program engagement
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, or related field, with adequate experience in recreation programming, preferably with special populations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the techniques and methods of organizing group recreational activities; knowledge of community organizations and resources; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software; ability to stay current on trends in recreation for all ages; ability to instruct youth, children and adults in various sports and games; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and members of the public.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work
requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Licensed Recreation Therapist/Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (LRT/CTRS) preferred
Valid driver’s license required.
CPR/First Aid/AED certification required within 6 months of hire.
