Role Purpose
An experienced Electrical Engineer (LV) responsible for providing specialist low-voltage electrical, instrumentation and control engineering support across energy and infrastructure projects.
The role provides engineering input throughout the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, installation, testing, commissioning and operational support.
Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, the Electrical Engineer will collaborate with internal stakeholders, clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers and statutory bodies to deliver safe, technically compliant and commercially effective electrical and control solutions.
The position also provides technical assurance of third-party engineering design and installation activities, including design reviews, verification and build-quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design
- Develop low-voltage electrical, instrumentation and control engineering solutions for industrial, commercial and energy-service projects.
- Undertake preliminary design studies, engineering assessments and feasibility work.
- Prepare cost estimates, equipment schedules, technical specifications, reports and other engineering documentation.
- Produce detailed electrical installation designs, models, schematics and drawings using AutoCAD and relevant electrical design software.
- Design and integrate electrical systems associated with energy-service plant, including steam, hot-water, power-generation and associated distribution systems.
- Apply sound electrical engineering principles to ensure designs are safe, reliable, maintainable and fit for purpose.
- Support the design and integration of industrial control systems, instrumentation and building management systems.
- Develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS), control panel specifications, schematics and control-system documentation where required.
Technical Assurance & Compliance
- Maintain a strong focus on health, safety and environmental requirements across all engineering activities.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable legislation, electrical standards, technical guidance and recognised industry best practice.
- Provide technical assurance of consultant, subcontractor and supplier designs through formal design reviews and verification activities.
- Support build-quality assurance and identify, assess and resolve technical issues arising during installation.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant electrical regulations and industry developments.
- Apply appropriate requirements relating to embedded generation and electrical distribution, including G99 and G100 where applicable.
Testing & Commissioning
- Plan, coordinate and supervise electrical design verification, testing and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate internal engineering resources and external specialist contractors as required.
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and operational phases.
- Assist with troubleshooting, modifications and changes to electrical and control systems requiring engineering input.
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle, including business development, estimating, mechanical engineering, commissioning, project management and operations.
- Coordinate external engineering consultants and subcontractors where specialist resources are required.
- Maintain clear communication with clients, suppliers, contractors, consultants and relevant statutory authorities.
- Manage assigned engineering activities independently, ensuring agreed scopes, deadlines and quality requirements are achieved.
- Monitor and report workload, progress, risks and resource requirements through appropriate management channels.
- Provide engineering input from initial opportunity identification through design, delivery, handover and ongoing operational support.
- Deputise for the Head of Electrical Engineering when required.

Technical Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Proven experience applying electrical engineering design principles within industrial, commercial or energy-related environments.
- Strong low-voltage electrical engineering and installation design experience.
- Experience producing comprehensive engineering documentation, technical reports, schedules and drawings.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or an equivalent engineering drawing environment.
- Sound understanding of electrical engineering legislation, standards and industry best practice.
- Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong IT literacy and ability to work with engineering and project-management systems.
Desirable
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or demonstrable progress towards professional registration.
- Experience with power generation, electrical distribution and embedded-generation systems.
- Experience with industrial and commercial control systems and Building Management Systems (BMS), from specification through commissioning.
- Experience using low-voltage electrical design software, such as Trimble or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with CHP, boiler and plate heat exchanger control systems.
- Knowledge and practical experience of G99 and G100 requirements.
- Experience acting as a Qualified Supervisor for low-voltage electrical installation works.
- Experience developing Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
- Experience producing control-panel specifications, schematics and industrial control-system designs.
- Experience supporting electrical testing, commissioning and technical assurance activities.
