Description
The Manager of External Reporting assists in ensuring compliant, complete, accurate and timely SEC and other filings. The individual will participate in streamlining and improving the quality and timeliness of the financial reporting processes. The individual will work cross functionally with other departments within the Controllers organization, Investor Relations, Corporate Governance, Treasury and Global Business Services.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting: Coordinate and prepare information included in earnings releases and Form 8-K, Form 10-Q, Form 10-K and on-line Annual Report, as well as assist in review of select financial information in Proxy Statement, and Registration Statements (S-8, S-3, e.g.) and other filings as needed. Applies skills, discipline, technical and line knowledge. Exercises own judgment using breadth of knowledge and prior work experience. May become a resource for others. Works independently. Receives instruction primarily on unusual or complex problems.
XBRL: Lead the review of XBRL and ensuring compliance with XBRL requirements. Able to work independently; makes decisions guided by policies in non-standard situations. Considered a technical resource within the team.
Process Strategy/Leveraging of Technology: Partner with responsible parties to further automate the datasets that feed into reporting the main financial statements and footnotes to the SEC; leverage technology to ensure the timely, complete and accurate delivery of information in support of external financial reporting for Pfizer. Applies knowledge of internal/external business challenges to provide input into recommendations for improvements. Takes appropriate risks to advance new concepts and methodologies that are moderately complex. Decisions may impact work of multiple teams or departments and may have short-term effect and may impact expenditure on existing /alternative resources.
SOX Controls/Coordination of Internal and External Audits: Provide support to internal and external auditors during audits and interim reviews.
Business Process Reengineering/Benchmarking: Review disclosures of competitors and various public companies for reporting practices and improvements to Company disclosures. · Financial Reporting and Integration of Acquired Companies and/or Financial Reporting of Discontinued Operations Provides guidance to and/or may lead/co-lead supporting the consolidation and integration of acquired companies or reporting discontinued operations.
Corporate Support: partner with Treasury, Corporate Governance/Legal, Investor Relations, and Global Business Services to support their projects (e.g., debt issuances, proxy, shareholders’ meetings, governance, benefit plan financial statements). Assist in preparing and reviewing other financial statements and reports as needed.
Role in Team Interaction: Regularly takes informal leadership role during team meetings to facilitate alignment and move the team toward its goals; takes responsibility for a portion of the team's milestones/deliverables; and may lead operational team
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience; OR a master's degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience; OR as associate's degree with 8 years of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience.
CPA
5-7 years of combined experience with Big 4 and publicly held multinational companies and in-depth knowledge of reporting and financial SEC compliance.
XBRL knowledge and experience
Proficient knowledge and experience with Workiva’s WDesk software
Actively exhibits the principles present in Pfizer’s Purpose blueprint and values and behaviors culture
Knowledge and experience with SharePoint
Strong computer skills; proficient in Excel
Strong technical acumen, analytical and financial reporting skills
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of accounting and financial systems/processes and controls
Experience working with multiple levels (including executive level), functions and regions; able to partner and support others without having a direct reporting relationship
Strong organizational skills; manages own time to meet objectives; forecasts and plans resource requirements); must be able to multi-task
Ability to carry out responsibilities with a sense of urgency
Overtime during the quarters and at year-end is required and throughout the year to meet deliverables.
Experience using common AI tools, including generative technologies such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, to support problem solving and enhance productivity. Demonstrated curiosity for exploring how these tools can improve outcomes and understanding of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related degree
Prior Pharma industry experience
