This is a unionized position at $33.99. The primary shift for this position is 2nd/3rd shift, however it is subject to change.

Overview:

The Electro-Mechanical Technician I is a developing maintenance technician responsible for performing preventive maintenance, inspections, routine repairs, equipment adjustments, and basic troubleshooting on production, packaging, and facility equipment. The EMT 1 works independently on routine assignments within demonstrated qualifications and works under the direction of an EMT 2, EMT 3, Maintenance Supervisor, or Manager on complex electrical, controls, instrumentation, utility, and major breakdown work.  

The role supports safe, reliable operation of the facility by identifying defects early, completing quality work, documenting findings in the CMMS, communicating equipment status, and partnering professionally with Operations, Quality, Sanitation, and Warehouse teams.

What You'll Do:

• Perform assigned preventive maintenance, lubrication, inspections, and corrective work in accordance with approved procedures, schedules, and equipment manuals.  Troubleshoot and repair routine mechanical issues involving conveyors, bearings, chains, sprockets, belts, gearboxes, pumps, valves, seals, pneumatic cylinders, and basic hydraulic components.  Inspect equipment for abnormal noise, vibration, heat, wear, looseness, leakage, misalignment, guarding concerns, or other developing failure conditions; promptly document and escalate findings.  Perform basic electrical checks and component replacement only when trained, qualified, and authorized. Work may include fuses, relays, contactors, switches, sensors, solenoids, motors, and circuits from 24VDC through 480VAC in accordance with electrical-safety requirements.  Use meters and other approved test equipment safely to verify voltage, continuity, current, or component condition within demonstrated qualifications. Follow all energized-work restrictions and escalation requirements.  Read and use equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, parts diagrams, basic electrical schematics, and basic pneumatic diagrams to complete assigned work.  Perform basic fabrication, cutting, grinding, drilling, and welding for repairs or installations when trained and authorized; maintain sanitary design and food-zone requirements.  Assist higher-level technicians with PLC-controlled equipment, variable-frequency drives, instrumentation, robotics, automation, utilities, major breakdowns, installations, and improvement projects. EM 1 employees do not independently modify PLC programs or safety circuits.  Support production start-ups, changeovers, shutdowns, centerlining, and equipment adjustments while protecting product safety, employee safety, quality, and equipment condition.  Respond to assigned breakdowns with urgency, establish clear communication with Operations, and escalate when the repair exceeds the employee's qualification, authorization, or available resources.  Create and complete CMMS work orders accurately, including problem found, work performed, parts used, labor hours, equipment condition, follow-up recommendations, and return-to-service status.  Communicate open work, temporary repairs, safety concerns, and required follow-up during shift passdown. Never leave equipment in an unsafe or unknown condition.  Maintain tools, work areas, shops, parts, and job sites in a clean, organized, and food-safe condition. Remove all tools, hardware, debris, and repair materials before releasing equipment.  Participate in training, skills assessments, root-cause discussions, breakdown-elimination activities, 5S, and continuous-improvement work appropriate to the position level.  Follow all plant rules and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety, machine guarding, confined space, hot work, fall protection, chemical safety, PPE, GMPs, food safety, food defense, allergen control, and sanitation requirements.  Perform other related duties assigned by maintenance leadership that are consistent with the employee's training, qualifications, and safe-work authorization. 

What You'll Need:

• High school diploma or GED preferred. Industrial maintenance certificate, apprenticeship coursework, trade-school training, or relevant military technical training preferred. One (1) to three (3) years of industrial maintenance experience preferred. Candidates with at least six months of relevant industrial experience plus verified technical training may be considered. Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude and safe use of hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and maintenance test equipment. Working knowledge of mechanical power transmission, bearings, conveyors, pumps, pneumatics, basic hydraulics, and preventive-maintenance practices. Basic industrial electrical knowledge. Must be able to demonstrate safe meter use and electrical fundamentals before performing electrical work independently. Ability to read work instructions, equipment manuals, diagrams, and basic schematics; ability to document completed work clearly in English. Ability to use a CMMS or learn to enter work orders, labor, parts usage, findings, and follow-up work accurately. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and measurements. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with employees across departments and shifts. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are helpful but not required. Ability to work assigned shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, or emergency call-ins as business needs required. Required Safety & Work Practices Recognizes personal qualification limits and stops work when conditions are unsafe, unclear, or outside authorization. Applies Lockout/Tagout and verifies zero energy before servicing equipment unless an approved, task-specific exception applies. Does not bypass guards, interlocks, safety relays, or protective devices and does not make unauthorized temporary repairs. Protects food-contact areas and follows tool, hardware, foreign-material, and post-maintenance inspection controls. Reports injuries, near misses, food-safety concerns, damaged equipment, and unsafe conditions immediately. Special Equipment Used:  Company-approved hand tools, power tools, meters and test instruments, welding and cutting equipment, fabrication equipment, ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts, forklifts, and other maintenance equipment appropriate to the employee's training and authorization. Licenses or certifications must be maintained when required.  Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job. Use team lifting or mechanical assistance for heavier, awkward, or unstable loads.  Work at heights, in tight spaces, and from approved ladders, scissor lifts, or boom lifts when trained and authorized.  Must be able to wear required PPE and safely work for extended periods in a physically active industrial environment.  Work Environment:  Work is performed in a food-manufacturing facility around moving machinery, wet or slippery surfaces, steam, hot surfaces, chemicals, electrical equipment, elevated noise, airborne particles, and indoor/outdoor temperature extremes that may range from freezing conditions to above 100°F. Required PPE and established safety procedures must be followed.
