Ellis County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) is searching for a motivated, self-starter auto mechanic / technician to help keep our county agency and patrol vehicles safely on the road.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with manager/lead mechanic/technician to diagnose and repair the mechanical and electrical components of vehicles within ECSO guidelines and budget.
- Performing test drive, inspections, and other diagnostic tests on vehicles to identify where problems exist and determine which parts need to be repaired or replaced.
- Completing preventative maintenance on vehicles, such as performing oil changes, rotating and/or replacing tires, flushing and replacing fluids, and replacing brake components.
- Performing repairs thoroughly and accurately.
- Repair or replace worn parts and systems, such as spark plugs, wheel bearings, brake pads, fuel systems, and sensors.
- Follow checklists to ensure thorough examination of all parts and systems.
- Identify mechanical and electrical problems with both manual and computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Generating timelines and estimates for repairs and discussing options with company management.
- Inspecting internal systems and controls to ensure the vehicle is operating properly and in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Maintaining accurate records relating to jobs, vehicles, parts, and service history.
- Using shop equipment and tools as instructed.
- Engaging in learning opportunities to update job knowledge and technical skills.
Requirements:
- Preferably 3 years’ actual in-shop automotive experience.
- Focus on overall vehicle safety for the driver is of utmost importance.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair vehicles and follow safety instructions and directions.
- Excellent active listening, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, independent, and reliable with a strong work ethic.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Have a favorable driving record and hold a valid driver license; if not licensed by the State of Texas, be able to obtain a Texas Driver’s license before employment.
- Able to drive to several county building locations.
- Must not have a criminal record that would preclude hiring as determined by Ellis County Sheriff’s Office standards.
- Completion of a post-secondary program in automotive service technology a plus.
- ASE certification a plus.
- Experience with electronic systems maintenance and repair.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Addition education, certifications, or experience is generally preferred.
Schedule:
- Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm (Schedule may change depending on the needs of ECSO)
