About the Role

Our application engineering teams support and enable customers creating the next technology breakthroughs in semiconductor, advanced materials, medical research, photonics, power electronics, automotive, AI, IoT and other high-technology markets.

As a Field Application Engineer for the UK and Ireland, you will provide expert technical and consultative support across the Tektronix and Keithley DC precision portfolio. The role combines strong knowledge of benchtop DC instrumentation, including digital multimeters, data-acquisition systems and source measure units, with deeper systems expertise in modular and integrated semiconductor characterization platforms such as the MP5000 Series, 4200A-SCS and S500.

The role has three primary responsibilities: deliver high-quality technical consultation and integrate solutions into customer workflows; partner with account management and Marketing to execute business plans in strategic accounts and opportunities; and use field and market knowledge to influence critical product updates and future roadmap direction. The position reports to the Regional FAE Manager in the Tektronix Commercial organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical, consultative assistance on DC precision, semiconductor and materials test requirements by presenting and demonstrating Tektronix and Keithley hardware, software and service solutions.
• Support benchtop DC instrumentation including DMMs, DAQ and SMUs, with particular familiarity with families such as the DMM6500, DAQ6510, 2450 and 7510.
• Lead solution development and technical engagement for modular and integrated systems, particularly the MP5000 Series Modular Precision Test System, 4200A-SCS Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer and S500 Integrated Test Systems.
• Advise customers on DC I-V, C-V, pulsed I-V, low-current, leakage, breakdown, reliability and wafer-level characterization workflows, including safe connection to probers, fixtures and switching systems.
• Support applications involving silicon, SiC, GaN and other semiconductor or advanced materials; power devices; VCSELs, lasers, LEDs and diodes; sensors, medical research devices and FET-based biosensors.
• Consult on and support optimized software routines and automation scenarios using instrument control, data acquisition and analysis tools.
• Ensure installation, training and acceptance of solutions into customer workflows, and provide continuing technical support for deployed systems.
• Work with account management teams to build close relationships with key accounts by delivering world-class technical consultation.
• Support competitive investigations and help communicate Tektronix and Keithley differentiation and customer value.
• Support technical training for internal sales associates and the partner network.
• Assist marketing objectives by leveraging domain knowledge to deliver virtual and face-to-face technical content.
• Develop working knowledge across the wider Tektronix portfolio, including oscilloscopes, probes, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, power supplies and related software and services.

Education and Experience

• A technical degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Physics, Materials Science, Applied Physics or a closely related field. An advanced degree is advantageous for candidates with research-intensive experience.
• Strong knowledge of test and measurement, with practical experience in precision voltage and current sourcing and measurement, low-level measurements, DMMs, DAQ systems, SMUs and instrument automation.
• Relevant experience in one or more associated markets and applications: semiconductor device and process characterization, wafer-level test, materials research, reliability, power semiconductors and wide bandgap materials, photonics/optoelectronics, medical research or biosensors.
• Good understanding of semiconductor device characterization methods, particularly DC I-V and C-V. Experience with pulsed I-V, wafer probers, switching, cabling, guarding, shielding and high-power or ultra-low-current measurements is preferred.
• Experience with integrated characterization systems or automated test systems is strongly preferred, including parameter analyzers, modular SMU/PSU platforms, wafer-level reliability or production-oriented parametric test.
• Knowledge and experience of programming languages and instrumentation control, for example Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++, C# or equivalent, is preferred.

The Successful Candidate Will Also Demonstrate

• A strong customer focus and willingness to work directly with engineers, researchers, test teams and decision-makers.
• Excellent communication, presentation and technical storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex measurement topics into clear customer value.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision while collaborating effectively with sales, marketing, product and service teams.
• Flexibility and mobility across the UK and Ireland, with readiness for national and international travel.
• Readiness to work in an international environment and fluency in English.
• A practical, hands-on and methodical approach to troubleshooting complex instruments, software and integrated test systems.
