Description
Quality Control Tech I – This is the entry level. The employee requires a high level of training and supervision. The employee will not perform tasks without direct supervision and should receive the necessary training and supervision from a certified NDT Lvl. 2 or Lvl 3 employee, lead, or manager. Employees at this level have minimum knowledge of welding inspection, applicable code, Cryoworks processes and procedures, vacuum jacket piping and related components. The employee is expected to learn through OJT and work toward completing the New Inspector Training Checklist.
Duties & Responsibilities Include but not limited to:
- Work toward lvl 2 NDE certifications in VT, RT, and PT.
- Inspect welded products for compliance with specifications and standards
- Report and address any defects or non-conformities.
- Perform inspection functions to ensure fabrication adheres to design specifications,
- Evaluate and complete QA hold points per drawing and code specifications.
- Review and process quality signoffs of fabrication travelers.
- Compare physical characteristics of materials or products to specifications or standards.
- Evaluate quality of materials or products.
- Mark products, workpieces, or equipment with identifying information.
- Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
- Notify others of equipment repair or maintenance needs.
- Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or Inspection requirements.
- Record operational or production data.
- Review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences.
- Conduct receiving inspection for welded materials verifying compliance to applicable specifications and standards.
Testing
- Inspect, test, or measure materials for conformance to specifications.
- Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
- Read blueprints, data, manuals, or other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing requirements
- Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
- Notify supervisors or other personnel of production and quality related issues.
- Discard or reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications.
- Write test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs.
- Recommend necessary corrective actions, based on inspection results.
Quality Control
- Perform visual inspections of finished products.
- Complete documentation needed to support inspection procedures i
- Calibrate, validate, or maintain equipment.
- Receive and inspect raw materials.
- Investigate or report questionable test results.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained.
Education, Work Experience, Skill Requirements & Certifications:
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent/Some college preferred.
Skills Required:
- Have current NDE certifications VT, PT, RT or be willing to work toward Lvl 2 NDE certification.
- Must have weld inspection related experience.
- Must have a general understanding of GTAW and GMAW welding processes and related defects.
- Previous NDE experience required
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced warehouse environment
- Must have good organizational skills and be detail oriented.
- Ability to work a team environment.
- Good communication, written and grammatical skills. Customer service oriented.
- Entry level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and general data entry.
Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU’s
- Valid California driver’s license and an insured vehicle in good working order.
Special Requirement:
- May be required to work weekends and holidays as business necessitates; schedules will be determined by management with at least 48 hours advance notice.
Work Environment:
- Working in the shop, the following conditions may apply:
- Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
- Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.

Salary/Hourly Range: $22 to $28. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Compensation packages also include comprehensive benefits, 401K contribution and match, Paid Time Off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement and more. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
