We are looking for someone to fill our Security Manager position which is located at Target Center in Minneapolis, MN. Home of the MN Timberwolves and MN Lynx.
Job Summary
The Security Manager is responsible for supporting the safety and security of Target Center guests, employees, partners, and assets during both day-to-day operations and events.
This position provides direct leadership and oversight of Security Officers and Supervisors, with responsibility for their performance, conduct, training, and development. The Manager is expected to lead by example and represent Legends Global, Target Center, and the Security Department with a high level of professionalism.
The Manager is also responsible for the effective management of departmental resources and administrative functions, including security equipment, staffing and scheduling needs, and accurate and timely payroll.
In addition, the Manager will serve in an Event Manager on Duty (MOD) capacity as assigned. Event MOD responsibilities and expectations will be established in coordination with the Director of Security and Senior Security Manager.
This position requires a hands-on leader who can balance people leadership, event security, administrative responsibilities, and day-to-day security operations while maintaining the standards and expectations of the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned based on operational and departmental needs.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for event and non-event security operations, providing leadership and direction during incidents, emergencies, and other security-related matters. Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) for assigned events.
- Coordinate the scheduling and staffing of the Security Department for Target Center events and daily operations. Manage departmental use of ABI, including scheduling and payroll functions, staff training, schedule compliance, and related administrative processes.
- Support the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention of part-time Security team members, with an ongoing focus on building and developing a strong department.
- Assist in the development and delivery of initial and ongoing training for Security personnel, including new-hire training, annual department training, Emergency Procedures training, and other operational or security-focused programs.
- Provide leadership and direction during security, medical, guest-related, and other operational incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ensure incidents are appropriately documented, reported, and escalated when necessary.
- Develop and facilitate ongoing security and emergency preparedness training for full-time staff, including tabletop exercises, security reviews, emergency action planning, and other department initiatives.
- Monitor and maintain departmental standards related to employee performance, conduct, attendance, professional appearance, customer service, and policy compliance. Provide coaching, documentation, corrective action, and follow-up when appropriate.
- Support the management and accountability of Security Department equipment and resources, ensuring operational equipment is properly maintained, documented, distributed, and available when needed.
- Work collaboratively with venue departments, tenants, law enforcement, public safety agencies, contractors, and event/touring personnel to support safe and efficient arena operations.
- Assist Security leadership with the development, implementation, and continued improvement of department policies, procedures, post orders, emergency plans, and event security strategies.
- Maintain a visible leadership presence throughout the facility and actively support Security Officers and Supervisors during both event and non-event operations.
- Promote a department culture centered on professionalism, accountability, teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in security management, Criminal Justice, Hospitality, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in security, public safety, venue operations, event management, hospitality, or a related field, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Ability to successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings and maintain any licenses, certifications, or qualifications required for the position. Working knowledge of security and public safety principles, including applicable laws and procedures related to trespassing, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, use of force, and other situations commonly encountered in a public assembly venue. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, develop, and hold team members accountable, while setting a positive example for the department. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with employees, leadership, guests, tenants, event partners, law enforcement, and other stakeholders. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain professionalism and composure during emergencies, high-stress situations, and rapidly changing event conditions. Demonstrated ability to effectively de-escalate conflict and communicate calmly and professionally with upset, emotional, or non-compliant individuals. Strong understanding of the relationship between security, guest experience, and venue operations within a public assembly or entertainment environment. Ability to develop, implement, and deliver training programs and materials to employees with varying levels of experience. Strong organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage staffing, scheduling, payroll, documentation, incident reporting, and departmental resources. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on the event and operational needs of Target Center.

Level of Accountability:
Operates with a high degree of independence and accountability, with general direction and oversight from the Director of Security.
Decision-Making:
Responsible for making independent operational decisions across a diverse range of security, staffing, personnel, and event-related matters. Must be able to assess situations quickly and escalate significant issues when appropriate.
Internal & External Relationships:
Regular interaction with employees and leadership across Target Center, as well as tenants, guests, vendors, contractors, touring personnel, law enforcement, public safety partners, and other external stakeholders.
Supervision & Leadership:
Provides direct supervision and leadership to Security Officers and Supervisors and supports the overall management, development, and accountability of the Security Department.
Departmental Oversight:
100+ full-time and part-time Security personnel.
Physical Requirements:
This is an active, hands-on position requiring frequent movement throughout the arena, including extended periods of walking and standing during events and daily operations.
Travel:
Travel is generally minimal. Occasional travel may be required for training, certification, professional development, or other department-related needs in coordination with the Director of Security.
Schedule Requirements:
Must maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended or irregular hours based on Target Center's event schedule and operational needs.
