Description
Ray-Jurgen is hiring an experienced Field Service Technician to support our heavy-duty customers throughout Greater Boston, Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire.
This role focuses primarily on large vehicle lifting systems used by transit agencies, fleet operators, and other heavy-duty maintenance facilities. You do not need prior vehicle-lift experience. We are looking for someone who already knows how to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and low-voltage electrical systems in the field. We will teach you our equipment.
If you are an experienced field technician who can walk into an unfamiliar mechanical problem, diagnose it methodically, and communicate professionally with the customer, this may be a strong fit.
What You'll Work On
Our heavy-duty equipment includes:
- Mobile column vehicle lifts
- Parallelogram lifts
- In-ground vehicle lifts
- Bus and rail maintenance lifting equipment
- Some light-duty vehicle lifting equipment
The position is primarily focused on service and repair, but you will also learn equipment installation and may participate in installation projects.
What We're Looking For
We expect you to bring the core technician skills. We will provide the equipment-specific training.
A strong candidate will already be comfortable:
- Diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic equipment
- Troubleshooting low-voltage electrical controls
- Using a multimeter
- Reading electrical schematics
- Identifying problems systematically rather than simply replacing parts
- Working independently at customer facilities
- Communicating findings and recommendations directly to customers
- Completing service documentation accurately
- Knowing when to continue troubleshooting and when to escalate for support
Experience in industrial field service, heavy equipment, generators, compressors, elevators/lifts, industrial maintenance, millwright work, HVAC, or similar technical environments can translate well to this position.
Prior vehicle-lift experience is not required.
Training
Our equipment is specialized, and we do not expect a new technician to know it on day one.
Compensation
- Starting pay: $40/hour
- Overtime opportunities
- Significant prevailing-wage work
We expect approximately 10-25% of hours initially may qualify for prevailing-wage rates, depending on project assignments and customer requirements. That opportunity may increase substantially as you become trained, qualified, and established with our major heavy-duty customers.
Prevailing-wage hours are driven by available work and customer assignments and are not guaranteed.
What Success Looks Like
Within approximately six months, a successful technician should be able to:
- Independently handle most routine heavy-duty service calls
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems safely and efficiently
- Repair and maintain the major lift systems in our heavy-duty product line
- Communicate professionally with customers
- Complete accurate service documentation
- Understand when additional technical support is needed
- Participate effectively in installation work when required
