Job Summary

 

The Fuel Facility Technician is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the aviation fuel storage, transfer, and hydrant systems. The position performs fuel-facility inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, fuel quality control, fuel receiving and transfer operations, inventory activities, regulatory-compliance duties, and required documentation.

 

The Fuel Facility Technician routinely performs the functions of a Fuel Facility Operator as operationally required and directed by management, including receiving petroleum products, conducting fuel quality-control testing, monitoring fuel inventories, operating fuel-transfer equipment, and completing required operating records.

 

The position helps ensure the continued operational integrity of the fuel facility and hydrant system in accordance with applicable requirements, including ATA Specification 103, ASTM and NFPA standards, the Swissport Ground Operations Procedures and Policy Manual (GPPM), site-specific procedures, environmental requirements, and management directives.

This is a technical and operational position and does not confer supervisory, disciplinary, or personnel-management authority.

The expected pay rate is $26.10/hour. Full-time employees are offered a range of health and wellness benefits as well as 401(k) with company match paid vacation time, sick time, and company paid holidays.  

 

Your activities

• Receive and dispatch petroleum products by tanker truck or other approved transfer method in accordance with ATA Specification 103, established operating procedures, and fuel quality-control requirements.
• Monitor fuel receipts and transfers and verify applicable delivery documentation, product identification, quantity, tank capacity, and fuel quality.
• Operate fuel-facility equipment associated with receiving, storage, transfer, filtration, and distribution of aviation fuel.
• Sample and test aviation fuel and perform required fuel quality-control inspections and testing in accordance with applicable ATA, ASTM, Swissport, customer, and site-specific requirements.
• Maintain accurate fuel inventory records and assist with daily and periodic inventory reconciliation.
• Conduct routine, periodic, and scheduled inspections of fuel storage tanks, loading racks, transfer equipment, pumps, filters, valves, piping, hydrant systems, hydrant pits, high and low points, emergency fuel shutoff systems, and associated facility equipment.
• Monitor storage tanks, pipelines, hydrant systems, valves, and related equipment for leaks, corrosion, deterioration, abnormal operating conditions, overfill hazards, contamination risks, and other conditions that could affect safety or system integrity.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and routine corrective maintenance on fuel facility and hydrant-system equipment within the employee's training, authorization, and qualifications.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, replace, adjust, and reassemble fuel-system components as authorized and appropriate to the work being performed.
• Assist qualified maintenance personnel, contractors, or other authorized personnel with troubleshooting, repairs, equipment testing, calibration, and specialized maintenance.
• Perform corrosion-control inspections and associated maintenance of transfer pipelines, hydrant-system piping, and other fuel-facility components.
• Identify, document, report, and assist in correcting equipment deficiencies, fuel leaks, corrosion, abnormal operating conditions, and other discrepancies affecting facility reliability, safety, environmental compliance, or fuel quality.
• Take appropriate action within established procedures to protect personnel, fuel quality, equipment, and the environment when unsafe or abnormal conditions are discovered.
• Perform and document required operational checks, inspections, preventive-maintenance activities, repairs, and fuel quality-control activities.
• Complete and maintain accurate paper and digital records, including ATA 103 documentation, fuel-receipt records, inventory records, quality-control records, inspection forms, maintenance records, repair records, environmental records, shift reports, and other required documentation.
• Support and coordinate assigned aspects of ATA 103 and other facility audits, including preparation, organization, and review of inspection records, maintenance documentation, quality-control records, and other compliance materials.
• Work directly with auditors, inspectors, customers, management, and other authorized personnel as assigned to demonstrate facility operations and provide requested records or information.
• Manage or perform assigned stormwater runoff collection, inspection, handling, and disposal activities within the airfield operations area in accordance with site procedures and applicable environmental requirements.
• Support environmental compliance activities involving fuel, oily water, potentially contaminated stormwater, waste materials, and other regulated materials encountered during facility operations.
• Respond to fuel spills, leaks, equipment failures, alarms, overfills, abnormal operating conditions, and other emergency situations in accordance with established emergency-response procedures.
• Assist with fuel-spill containment, recovery, cleanup, reporting, and restoration activities.
• Maintain fuel-facility equipment and work areas in a clean, orderly, safe, and environmentally compliant condition.
• Communicate facility conditions, maintenance needs, discrepancies, incidents, fuel-quality concerns, environmental issues, and other significant operational information to coworkers and management.
• Coordinate planned and completed maintenance activities with facility management and affected personnel as required.
• Follow applicable Swissport, customer, airport, federal, state, and local safety, security, environmental, operational, and quality-control requirements.
• Perform other fuel-facility operational, maintenance, inspection, environmental, and related duties as assigned by management.

Your profile

 

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain the driving privileges required for the position.
• Previous aviation-fueling, fuel-facility, petroleum-storage, industrial-maintenance, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, facilities, or related experience preferred.
• Ability to develop and demonstrate a working knowledge of the fuel facility, hydrant system, fuel-transfer systems, and associated equipment following training.
• Ability to understand and apply aviation-fuel quality-control procedures, fuel-receipt procedures, equipment-inspection requirements, preventive-maintenance practices, and applicable safety standards.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment within the employee's training and authorization.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, measuring devices, and other equipment required for assigned maintenance and inspection work.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to communicate effectively by radio, telephone, electronic systems, and in person, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow technical procedures, operating manuals, equipment instructions, safety requirements, inspection forms, diagrams, and written work instructions.
• Ability to complete records, reports, calculations, inspection forms, maintenance records, and other required documentation accurately.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use applicable electronic inspection, maintenance, inventory, communication, and reporting systems.
• Ability to pass the mathematical-skills assessment and other job-related assessments required for the position.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

 

The Fuel Facility Technician position involves work in an active industrial aviation-fuel environment and may require climbing stairs and ladders, working at elevations, standing and walking for extended periods, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting or moving equipment and materials, using tools and equipment, and working around moving vehicles, machinery, petroleum products, noise, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions.
