Details Specific to the Post

Background and Context

The post holder will lead a team of Clinical Trials Practitioners, this project widens research access by delivering studies directly into underserved communities, including social housing estates, rural areas and traveller sites, through a Mobile Research Unit, GP practices, community venues and other local settings. By removing barriers such as travel, cost and stigma, residents gain opportunities to participate in obesity and lifestyle intervention studies that are typically hospital-based, improving inclusion and engagement. Based between the purpose built clinical trials unit within Academic Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Allam Diabetes Centre at Hull Royal infirmary and the NHS mobile research units across the Humber region to help make a positive impact to people living with overweight, obesity and associated diseases.

The Clinical Trials Practitioner Team Leader will support a varied portfolio of clinical and applied health studies as well as pilot courses of diet and lifestyle invitations. 

The post holder will lead practitioners delivering community-based approach widening research access by delivering studies directly into underserved communities, including social housing estates, rural areas and traveller sites, through the Mobile Research Unit, GP practices, community venues and other local settings. 

The post holder will be responsible for engaging stakeholders, building on established community relationships, identification and recruitment of suitable candidates to participate in clinical trials and clinical trials awareness. Further responsibilities include the management and facilitation of the clinical trials, including clinical work and technician tasks ensuring data is correctly gathered and recorded under the guiding principles of GCP

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

The post holder will line manage a small team of Clinical Research practitioners and oversee community engagement and outreach work. The post holder will plan and deliver own workload and delegate workload and tasks to others

The post holder will assist with a variety of clinical research projects and clinical trials, particularly in diabetes and endocrinology.  Implement protocol guided care in Research setting; Observe patient condition, record clinical observations, adverse events & reports to PI.  To have responsibility for research samples to trial protocols. To work within clinical trial protocols and to ICH/GCP standards.

Ability to work without supervision, e.g. engaging with the public and stakeholders in the community, dealing with telephone and personal enquiries from staff, patients and carers, answering queries where possible and ensuring appropriate personnel informed for further action to be taken.

The post holder will manage and resolve day-to-day issues related to the operation of the mobile research unit, including logistical challenges and the prioritisation of clinical trials. They will also respond promptly and effectively to queries from study sponsors.

The postholder will plan the timetabling of community based venues and the associated staffing. Liaising with stakeholders and community leaders to ensure resource is in the right place and used effectively

The post holder will make decisions on prioritising recruitment activities to clinical trials working to deadlines and disseminating this information to the team.

A full UK driving licence and willingness to drive the mobile research unit as required (reasonable adjustments will be considered for candidates with disabilities).
