About the Show: Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos is KTAR News’ flagship afternoon drive show, hosted by Bruce St. James and Larry Gaydos.  The show delivers smart analysis, real accountability, and debate that matters to Arizona, airing live weekdays 2pm to 6pm on 92.3 FM, streaming on the KTAR YouTube channel, and distributed across KTAR.com, the KTAR News app and other on-demand platforms.

Position Overview

The Producer is the creative and logistical engine behind Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos, responsible for shaping each day’s show from concept to distribution.  This role requires a news-driven storyteller who can ideate compelling content, capture and edit audio and video, book high-caliber guests, and ensure finished content reaches every platform where the audience lives.  The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, live broadcast environment and brings strong editorial instincts paired with hands-on multimedia production skills.

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

  • This position is an in-studio, onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Phoenix site. The producer’s schedule will align with the show’s live broadcast window, with prep time beginning earlier in the day.  Some flexibility for breaking news or special event coverage may be required.

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

Story Ideation & Show Preparation

  • Research and pitch story ideas daily, drawing from local, state, and national news with an emphasis on what matters to Arizona audiences.
  • Collaborate with Bruce, Gaydos, and the KTAR newsroom to build compelling rundowns that balance hard news, community stories, and signature show segments (e.g., The Faceoff).
  • Monitor trending topics, social media conversations, and competitor coverage to keep the show ahead of the story.
  • Prepare talking points, background research, and supporting materials for hosts in advance of each broadcast.

Audio & Video Gathering, Content Creation

  • Source, pull, and prepare audio and video clips needed for on-air segments and social platforms.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes and in-studio footage during live broadcasts for use across digital and social platforms.
  • Edit highlight clips, compelling moments, and behind-the-scenes content from each day’s show for digital platforms.
  • Create short-form video packages optimized for each platform (YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Facebook, X/Twitter).

Guest Booking & Live Video Interviews

  • Identify, pitch, and confirm guests, including newsmakers, analysts, public officials, and subject-matter experts that are aligned with the day’s editorial focus.
  • Coordinate live video interviews, ensuring guests are set up for on-camera appearances via the KTAR YouTube livestream or in-studio.
  • Manage guest communications, scheduling, and day-of logistics to ensure seamless segments.

Post-Production & Multi-Platform Distribution

  • Produce and publish podcast episodes for on-demand platforms on a daily deadline.
  • Edit and package on-air content and video for distribution to KTAR.com, the KTAR News app, YouTube, and social media channels.
  • Write compelling titles, descriptions, and metadata to maximize discoverability across platforms.
  • Track content performance metrics and share insights with the team to inform future editorial and content decisions.

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

  • 2-4 years of experience in radio/audio production, broadcast television, digital media production, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated video editing proficiency (Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent).
  • Strong editorial judgment and a nose for stories that resonate with a local audience.
  • Experience booking guests and managing talent logistics in a live broadcast environment.
  • Ability to work under daily deadline pressure with a calm, organized approach.
  • Deep familiarity with social media platforms and content best practices for each.
  • Preferred but not required:
    • Knowledge of Arizona news, politics, and culture.
    • Experience with live-streaming tools and platforms
    • Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Photoshop) for social media assets.
    • Knowledge of control room operation and live show controls.

Physical Demands

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Compensation
