IMEG is hiring a Senior Civil Engineer in Charlotte, NC for a dual-track opportunity that supports both technical leadership and project management on moderate to complex civil projects. In this role, you will help deliver larger, high complexity work with limited support from senior staff while working closely with engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and advice to clients.
Depending on the path selected, responsibilities include engineering analysis, civil infrastructure and site design oversight, project management, budgets, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination. This role supports work across survey, land development, and civil engineering markets, delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You'll Do
Technical Path
- Lead the design and analysis of civil engineering project features for moderate to complex projects, with limited support from senior staff on larger and high complexity work
- Develop detailed civil designs, specifications, and calculations using Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent software tools according to code requirements and IMEG standards
- Use and train others in civil engineering software for traffic analysis, pipe networks, and related project needs
- Lead civil site design with the project team and provide advanced technical oversight
- Work closely with engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and advice to clients
- Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication and effective coordination of project requirements
- Perform in-process design reviews and implement quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements
- Provide technical training, mentoring, and field issue support with limited support from senior staff
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
- Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance, interpret state and local design criteria, and apply them to project needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
- Train, mentor, and motivate staff, support project budgets, and participate in project interviews and presentations
Project Management Path
- Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects ranging in size and complexity
- Lead project management, engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of civil infrastructure and/or site design
- Assist with design scopes of work, fee calculations for proposals, and contract reviews
- Create project schedules with milestones and deadlines, and coordinate project scheduling during all phases of design and construction
- Serve as the point of contact for teams and clients and build, maintain, and develop client relationships
- Create monthly billings, submit financial information to Accounting in a timely manner, and update billing projections and estimated completion percentages
- Ensure design follows owner standards and requirements, IMEG standards, and code requirements, and ensure milestone deliverables, quality control processes, and construction support occur in a timely manner
- Schedule and lead progress meetings and provide meeting documentation
- Conduct construction site visits and provide documentation as needed or requested
- Respond to and resolve client and construction concerns, and manage change orders and obtain appropriate approvals
- Mentor, train, motivate, and lead staff
- Work within project budgets and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations

Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, required
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required
- 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

- Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills for civil infrastructure.
- Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays
