Job Description:

Purpose of role:

Expert Technologist Industrial Oil will take the mission of delivering integrated solutions and added values to internal/external customers in a safe, professional,  reliable, and efficient way with their inspiring creativity in lubricant formulation, rich experience in applied technologies and strong expertise in services for lubricant industries.

The role will lead technology strategy and execution for strategic industrial lubricant portfolios, with focus areas including industrial gear oils and related OEM applications, supporting business growth through fit-for-purpose product development, formulation optimization and technical leadership.

Working closely with local and global team, OEMs, gearbox manufacturers and key industry partners, the role will drive technical differentiation, secure approval continuity, support Chinese OEM globalization and shape future industrial lubrication technology roadmaps.

As an expert technologist, this role will lead, drive or support various activities of establishing, developing and reinforcing Castrol’s technology capabilities and competitiveness, following the strategy of business unit and technology team. This role will not only handle routine tasks in daily operation, but also closely monitor industrial trends and the advances in technology innovations in relevant industrial sessions where this role can allocate resources to explore Castrol opportunities to grow.

 

 

Key Results/ Accountabilities expected from role

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure daily operations for fulfilling responsibilities in a safe manner and conform to Castrol value, code of conduct and internal policies.

Formulation Technology

  • Serve as technical owner for strategic industrial lubricant portfolios, including gear oils, hydraulic fluids, and related industrial lubrication solutions.
  • Lead end-to-end product development and lifecycle management from concept generation, formulation design and technical assessment through commercialization and post-launch support.
  • Develop fit-for-purpose formulations addressing evolving OEM, customer and market requirements.
  • Drive formulation optimization, raw material strategies and product performance enhancement to improve competitiveness, responsiveness and supply resilience.
  • Provide technical guidance on product positioning, competitive benchmarking and value proposition development.
  • Support OEM approvals, qualification programs and technology deployment activities to enable business growth.

Product Applied Technology

  • Provide expert leadership in troubleshooting, failure analysis and customer technical support through systematic problem-solving approaches.
  • Deliver rapid technical assessment and escalation support for critical customer issues and competitive challenges.
  • Support quality investigations, customer complaints and operational issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Build strong technical relationships with stakeholders, customers and industry partners to understand emerging requirements and market trends.
  • Promote best practices and continuous improvement in industrial lubricant application and technical service activities.

Project Management

  • Lead or support technology projects in accordance with internal project management processes.
  • Identify and deliver innovation initiatives that support business growth and strategic market opportunities.
  • Manage project priorities, resources and technical deliverables across product development, formulation change and application studies.
  • Maintain effective project governance, documentation and communication throughout project lifecycles.

Innovation and Engineering

  • Develop and strengthen Castrol's industrial lubrication technology capabilities through technology innovation, industrial trend analysis and market insight generation.
  • Monitor developments in lubricant technology, OEM requirements, industry standards and competitive activities to identify future growth opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain strategic technical relationships with OEMs, additive suppliers, industrial associations, research institutes and universities.
  • Represent Castrol in industry forums and technical communities to enhance technical influence and support future technology roadmaps.

Key long term challenges faced in the role (in relation to section 4 & 10)

Maintaining technology leadership in a rapidly evolving industry while supporting increasingly global OEM customers. Balancing short-term business delivery with long-term technology roadmap development and specification influence. Managing increasing competitive intensity, technology localization requirements and evolving sustainability expectations across industrial sectors.


 

Experience & Expertise (mandatory & desired)

 

  • Deep understanding of industrial lubrication technology, tribology and machinery lubrication systems, with expertise in gear oils and other industrial lubricant applications.
  • Experience in wind turbine gearbox lubrication, OEM approval programs and renewable energy applications would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record in industrial lubricant product development from concept through commercialization.
  • Experience working with global OEM organizations and cross-regional technical teams.
  • Familiarity with patent landscape, technology trends and competitive benchmarking in various applications, with focus areas in general industrial and wind gear lubrication.
  • Wide connections with industrial partners including companies, institutes and researchers.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience of working across teams.
  • Strong capabilities of international and interculture communication in written and oral practices.
  • Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Engineering or related technical discipline.

 


Travel Requirement:

Up to 50% travel should be expected with this role
