Position Summary:
The Night Shift Seafood Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the nightly operations of the Seafood Warehouse and Processing Room to ensure products are processed, picked, packed, and shipped accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
This position works closely with the Seafood Warehouse Manager and serves as the primary supervisor on the night shift. The Supervisor is responsible for getting all areas of the operation started correctly, ensuring employees have the necessary paperwork, labels, product, and direction to perform their jobs, and maintaining accountability throughout the shift.
The ideal candidate will have strong seafood warehouse and/or processing experience, excellent organizational skills, the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment, and a strong understanding of inventory accuracy, product quality, and customer service.
Essential Responsibilities:
Nightly Operations:
- Oversee the night shift operations of the Seafood Warehouse and Processing Room.
- Ensure all areas are properly prepared and started at the beginning of each shift.
- Ensure required paperwork, labels, production information, and work assignments are available and accurate.
- Assign work and provide direction to warehouse and processing employees based on nightly production and shipping requirements.
- Conduct a nightly safety huddle with employees to review a safety topic, reinforce safe work practices, and discuss operational issues from the previous shift, including shorts, extras on trucks, mispicks, and other order or warehouse concerns.
- Monitor workflow throughout the shift and make adjustments as needed to keep operations moving efficiently.
- Ensure all orders and routes are completed accurately and on time.
- Communicate issues, delays, shortages, quality concerns, and other operational problems to the Warehouse Manager.
Warehouse & Processing:
- Supervise warehouse employees and processing personnel during the night shift.
- Monitor product movement from inventory through processing, packing, staging, and shipping.
- Ensure employees follow established procedures for handling, labeling, storage, processing, and packing of seafood products.
- Ensure proper organization and housekeeping of the warehouse and processing areas.
- Reinforce food safety, sanitation, safety, and company policies and procedures.
Inventory Control:
- Monitor inventory levels and product movement throughout the shift.
- Ensure product is properly identified, labeled, stored, and accounted for.
- Review and properly disposition all product returns to determine whether product is in acceptable condition to be returned to inventory and made available for selection that night.
- Ensure returned product that is poor quality, damaged, questionable, or otherwise unsuitable for selection is placed on hold and clearly identified until the Buyer provides direction.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and communicate issues to the Warehouse Manager.
- Assist with cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation as needed.
- Maintain awareness of available product and communicate potential shortages that could affect customer orders or production.
Customer & Quality Assurance:
Leadership & Employee Supervision:
- Lead by example and maintain a professional, productive work environment.
- Provide direction, coaching, and accountability to employees.
- Monitor employee attendance, performance, productivity, and adherence to procedures.
- Address minor employee issues promptly and communicate significant or recurring issues to the Warehouse Manager.
- Train employees on proper warehouse and processing procedures as needed.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication between the warehouse and processing departments.
Communication & Reporting:
- Maintain clear communication with the Warehouse Manager regarding nightly operations.
- Report shortages, inventory issues, product quality concerns, equipment problems, employee issues, and route delays.
- Provide a clear end-of-shift recap to management regarding outstanding issues, operational concerns, and items requiring follow-up.
- Complete required operational paperwork and documentation accurately and timely.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in seafood warehousing, seafood processing, food distribution, or a related industry preferred.
- Previous supervisory or lead experience required.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse and/or seafood processing operations.
- Understanding of seafood product handling, quality, inventory, and shipping procedures.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during the night shift.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple areas and priorities at the same time.
- Basic computer skills; experience with Produce Pro, WMS, or similar warehouse/inventory systems preferred.
- Ability to read and complete operational paperwork accurately.
- Ability to work Sunday night through Friday night, with one scheduled night off during the week.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
- Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull seafood products and warehouse materials.
- Ability to safely navigate warehouse and processing areas.
- Must be able to work the required night shift schedule.
