Summary:
Our team is growing to support an expanding business and offers a unique opportunity to work across trading, supply, and commercial functions. In addition to core fuel pricing and market analysis responsibilities, you will support strategic initiatives, capital investment evaluations, and ad hoc projects that influence key business decisions. This role is ideal for a highly analytical professional interested in refined products markets, fuel supply, trading, and commercial strategy in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Market Fundamentals Analysis
- Monitor North American and global refined products markets, including gasoline, ULSD, jet fuel, and fuel oil.
- Analyze supply, demand, inventories, imports/exports, refinery utilization, and trade flows.
- Develop short-term and long-term price forecasts.
- Track market-moving events, regulations, weather, outages, and geopolitical developments.
Trading & Commercial Support
- Provide actionable market intelligence to traders and commercial teams.
- Identify arbitrage opportunities, pricing dislocations, and regional market imbalances.
- Monitor crack spreads, basis differentials, time spreads, and refining margins.
- Assist with trade evaluation, position analysis, and profitability assessments
Data & Analytics
- Develop market models using Excel, Python, R, SQL, or Power BI.
- Automate data collection and reporting processes.
- Produce dashboards and reports highlighting market trends and trading opportunities.
- Translate large data sets into concise recommendations for decision makers
Strategic Projects
- Support strategic initiatives and special projects across trading, supply, and commercial teams. Analyze data, build models, and create reports to answer business questions and support decisions related to supply optimization, market opportunities, operational improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and capital investment proposals. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to support business planning and strategic decision-making.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.
The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Data Analytics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and data analysis. Experience with SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytical tools preferred.
- Strong quantitative and analytical problem-solving skills with experience analyzing market, operational, and financial data.
- Ability to develop forecasts, business cases, and data-driven recommendations to support commercial and strategic decision-making.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of energy, refined products, commodity trading, refinery operations, or supply chain economics preferred.
- Familiarity with commodity pricing services, market intelligence platforms, and ETRM systems is a plus.
