A Kaniksu Community Health, the Peer Recovery Coach is not just responsible for providing excellent customer service. They are committed to providing excellent patient experience while performing essential clinical or administrative work in a fast-paced, productive environment. YOU ARE an essential team member charged with assisting patients in managing their care at Kaniksu Community Health.

Under the direction of the KCH Director of Behavioral Health and Behavioral Health Providers and as a member of the Kaniksu Community Health Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Team, a typical day might include of the Peer Recovery Coach might include;

• Build authentic, respectful, and strengths-based relationships with individuals seeking recovery support.

• Serve as a mentor, advocate, and recovery partner while promoting hope, resilience, and self-determination.

• Utilize lived experience appropriately and professionally to inspire recovery and support individuals in achieving their goals.

• Provide peer recovery coaching utilizing motivational interviewing, recovery capital, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction principles.

• Assist individuals in creating, implementing, and reviewing individualized recovery and wellness plans.

• Conduct outreach and engagement activities in primary care clinics, behavioral health settings, hospitals, emergency departments, recovery community centers, homes, correctional settings, and other community locations.

• Support successful transitions following hospitalization, detoxification, residential treatment, incarceration, crisis intervention, and other levels of care.

• Connect individuals with healthcare services, behavioral health treatment, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), housing, transportation, employment, education, financial assistance, and other community resources.

• Provide emotional support and assist with crisis de-escalation while practicing within the Recovery Coach scope of practice and organizational policies.

• Collaborate with physicians, behavioral health clinicians, nurses, care coordinators, social workers, community partners, and recovery organizations to promote coordinated, patient-centered care.

• Document services accurately, timely, and in accordance with organizational standards using the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and all organizational privacy policies.

• Participate in multidisciplinary care team meetings, supervision, continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and program development activities.

• Maintain professional certification requirements and adhere to the Idaho Board of Alcohol/Drug Counselor Certification (IBADCC) Code of Ethics.

• Maintain current knowledge of recovery support best practices, community resources, and evidence-based approaches to substance use and behavioral health recovery.

• Responsible for relating well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and for having empathy for patients with demonstrated ability to treat them with dignity and respect.

Experience Needed to Land this Gig:

• Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC), or eligible to obtain Provisional Certification through the Idaho Board of Alcohol/Drug Counselor Certification (IBADCC).

• Minimum of two (2) years of sustained personal recovery preferred if utilizing lived experience as part of the recovery coaching role.

• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance.

• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check or possess an approved waiver as required.

• Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to establish healthy professional boundaries while building trusting relationships.

• Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented care.

• Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

• Experience supporting individuals with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders.

• Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Recovery Capital, Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC), and trauma-informed practices.

• Experience working within integrated healthcare, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), behavioral health organizations, hospitals, recovery community organizations, or crisis response systems.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

• Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.

• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

• Ability to engage individuals experiencing crisis with empathy and professionalism.

• Understanding of recovery principles and person-centered care.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.

• Strong problem-solving and resource navigation skills.

• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and community partners.

• Excellent time management, documentation, and organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently while prioritizing multiple responsibilities.

Work Schedule:

Full Time

No. of Hours/week – 40 hours

Schedule Options – 5x8s - Monday to Friday OR 4x10s – Monday to Thursday
