Description
Used Vehicle Reconditioning Technician
Tired of working on the same make of vehicle every day?
Wendle Motors is looking for an experienced Used Vehicle Reconditioning Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and prepare our pre-owned vehicles for sale.
This is not a traditional OEM service-lane technician position.
You'll work on many different makes and models, using your automotive experience and judgment to help determine what each vehicle needs to be safe, reliable, and ready for our customers. Wendle sets high standards for our reconditioning process to ensure only the best pre-owned vehicles are offered for sale.
If you're a well-rounded technician who enjoys variety and likes seeing a vehicle move from inspection to frontline-ready, this may be a great fit.
Schedule & Pay:
- Full-time, on-site, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (hours may vary)
- Top Technicians: Earn up to $100,000 annually, with our Used Vehicle Technician team averaging more than $65,000 in annual earnings. Individual earnings vary based on experience, skill level, diagnostic ability, productivity, and the scope and complexity of repairs performed.
- We believe technicians should have the opportunity to increase their earning potential as their skills, certifications, productivity, and contribution to the shop grow.
Qualifications:
A strong candidate will have:
- Several years of professional automotive repair experience
- Broad knowledge across multiple vehicle makes and systems
- Experience with brakes, suspension, steering, maintenance, HVAC, electrical, drivability, and general mechanical repair
- Strong inspection and diagnostic skills
- The ability to work independently
- Good judgment about what a used vehicle needs
- Clear repair documentation
- Their own basic automotive technician tools
- A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, since vehicle road testing is an essential part of the position
Dealership, independent repair shop, fleet, rental, and other professional automotive experience may all be relevant.
ASE certification is helpful but is not required for every experienced candidate.
Responsibilities:
As part of our used vehicle reconditioning operation, you will:
- Perform comprehensive mechanical inspections on pre-owned vehicles
- Work on domestic, import, car, truck, and SUV inventory
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, drivability, HVAC, brake, steering, suspension, and other vehicle concerns
- Perform maintenance and repairs needed to prepare vehicles for retail sale
- Identify safety-related and necessary reconditioning items
- Document inspection findings and repair needs clearly
- Work with Parts and Used Vehicle management to keep vehicles moving through the reconditioning process.
- Complete approved repairs efficiently and accurately
- Perform final quality checks and road tests
- Identify repairs that should be referred for manufacturer-specific or specialty diagnosis
- Help move completed vehicles through the reconditioning process and onto the frontline
Why This Job Is Different
Some technicians love becoming specialists in one manufacturer.
Others love variety.
In this position, you may work on a Ford pickup in the morning, a Toyota SUV after lunch, and finish the day diagnosing a Chevrolet, Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Jeep, or another make.
There is no need to change manufacturers or become brand-specific to be successful in this role. Broad automotive knowledge is an advantage.
This position may be especially appealing if you:
- Enjoy working on different makes and models
- Have strong general repair skills
- Like diagnosing problems and making sound repair decisions
- Prefer reconditioning/internal work to a traditional customer service lane
- Enjoy seeing tangible progress as vehicles move through the shop
- Can balance productivity with doing the job correctly
Why Wendle:
Eligible employees receive a competitive benefits package that includes:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) plan with discretionary company match
- Paid time off
- Flat rate bonus
- Longevity bonus
- Company-paid life insurance
- Voluntary life and disability insurance
- Wellness-program benefits
