Regulatory Compliance Officer & Claims Manager
Our client is seeking an experienced Regulatory Compliance Officer & Claims Manager to support the regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and claims administration functions for their captive insurance operations.
This is a hands-on role within a small, specialized captive insurance environment. The individual will be responsible for ensuring the captive insurance companies remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations while also overseeing the day-to-day administration and coordination of claims.
The ideal candidate is an experienced insurance professional who is comfortable wearing multiple hats, managing competing priorities, and working directly with clients, regulators, actuaries, accountants, attorneys, and internal stakeholders. Strong judgment, attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to independently manage deadlines are essential. Success in this role means ensuring the captive insurance companies remain well-governed, compliant, organized, and responsive, while providing consistent and effective administration of claims. The successful candidate will become a trusted resource for clients and professional partners and will be comfortable taking ownership of both regulatory and operational responsibilities in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Corporate Governance
- Oversee regulatory compliance activities for the captive insurance companies and ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, policies, and ethical standards.
- Manage regulatory submissions and filings related to:
- New corporate entity formations
- New insurance company licensing
- Corporate dissolutions
- Shareholder changes and management
- Other required regulatory and corporate filings
- Coordinate Board of Directors and shareholder meeting requirements, including preparation and maintenance of meeting documentation and minutes.
- Prepare and maintain corporate governance documentation, including Codes of Ethics and Conduct.
- Review and update contracts, feasibility studies, insurance policies, and other key documents on an annual basis.
- Prepare and issue insurance policies and reinsurance contracts.
- Develop, maintain, and improve compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Monitor changes in insurance regulations and regulatory requirements and evaluate their potential impact on the captive companies.
- Identify and investigate compliance issues and coordinate appropriate corrective actions and remediation.
- Maintain accurate and organized regulatory and corporate records.
- Serve as a key point of contact with regulators, actuaries, accountants, attorneys, clients, and other professional advisors.
- Develop strong working relationships with clients and internal and external stakeholders.
- Support regulatory examinations, audits, and other compliance-related reviews.
- Attend and participate in captive insurance conferences and other relevant industry events.
Claims Administration
- Manage the day-to-day administration of claims for the captive insurance companies.
- Receive, document, and track claims from initial notice through resolution.
- Review claims for completeness and accuracy and identify potential coverage or documentation issues.
- Coordinate the collection of supporting documentation, statements, reports, and other claim information.
- Work closely with policyholders, claims adjusters, attorneys, vendors, and other involved parties throughout the claims process.
- Coordinate investigations and follow up on outstanding information required to move claims forward.
- Monitor claim status, deadlines, and required actions to ensure timely and accurate handling.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and well-organized claim files and documentation.
- Assist with claim evaluations, reserve updates, settlements, and payment processing as appropriate.
- Escalate complex, disputed, or potentially significant claims to the appropriate internal or external resources.
- Prepare claims reports, summaries, and updates for management and other stakeholders.
- Support claims-related audits, reporting requirements, and process improvements.
- Ensure claims are administered consistently with policy terms, regulatory requirements, and established procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business, finance, law, risk management, or a related field preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in insurance, captive management, regulatory compliance, claims, risk management, legal, audit, or a related field.
- Captive insurance experience is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of insurance regulations, regulatory requirements, corporate governance, and compliance practices.
- Experience with insurance policies, reinsurance agreements, regulatory filings, or insurance operations.
- Experience with claims administration or claims coordination within an insurance environment.
- Strong understanding of insurance terminology and the insurance lifecycle.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities in a small-team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with clients, regulators, actuaries, accountants, attorneys, and other professional partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize industry-specific systems and software.
- Professional designation or certification in insurance, compliance, risk management, or a related field is a plus.
Compensation: $150,000 – $180,000 base + bonus
