Position Concept

The Data Security Coordinator performs technical and operations data security work in the Information Technology Division and is knowledgeable in the duties, tasks, and responsibilities. This position is responsible for technical and physical aspects of data security for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

 

The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude which includes the following: interacting positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding professionally and efficiently to customers, working as a team member, functioning under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.

 

The Data Security Coordinator may perform other related duties and tasks, as required and shall have the physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position.

 

Essential Functions

  • Serve as main point of contact for IT Data Security
  • Design, develop and maintain all aspects of Data Security to include Firewalls, Intrusion Detection, Member Training, Phishing Prevention, Active Directory Monitoring, Email Gateway, Log Management and other security functions as needed.
  • Knowledge of security tools / procedures and hacking methods
  • Knowledge of  Unix / Windows servers security
  • Maintain user access systems security
  • Maintain website security
  • Create ad hoc security reports as needed
  • Monitor logs as needed for security breaches
  • Responds to security breaches as required  
  • Maintain records for FDLE compliance and FDLE Primary Contact
  • Serve as backup to the Enterprise Supervisor with Data Center, Disaster Recovery, Backups and Website support

Education, Professional Certification or License

  • Two (2) year degree in Computer Science or related field from accredited college or University required
  • Four (4) year degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or University preferred

Professional Experience

  • Two (2) years specialization/training in 4 GL database programming, UNIX and/or DOS preferred
  • Experience in computer programming for Law Enforcement agency preferred
  • Comparable training and experience may be substituted
  • Familiarity with Data Security, Internet and related software
