Provides clinical leadership to the Respiratory Care staff to ensure that all available resources contribute to the goals and objectives of patient care services. The Lead Respiratory Therapist is an expert in equipment resource management. Responsible for the quality of the service provided by the Respiratory Team and participates in the coordination of patient care and effectively plans and organizes all related management activities for the assigned shift. The Lead has advanced Respiratory Care clinical knowledge and skill in all Respiratory Therapy modalities.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Evaluates resources and commitments on a daily basis and assigns staff accordingly. Evaluates and facilitates the posting of monthly staff schedule. Available to the Respiratory Care staff, physicians and nurses for information, advice, and planning. Obtains and processes incident and accident reports in an efficient and timely manner. Contributes and organizes the education of students on clinical rotation. Monitors equipment resources on a daily basis to ensure life support and emergency equipment are clean, in position and ready for use. Provides equipment education, training, and troubleshooting. Completes annual evaluations on all staff assigned to their team. Composes, implements and reviews policies for the RCS. Mentors staff performance with formal instruction and counseling. Orients new staff and students on clinical rotation. Provides performance improvement monitoring and risk management analysis as required. Recognizes safety hazards and takes prompt action to resolve issues. Demonstrates honesty, credibility, and openness in communication. Provides written communication in the form of memos, agendas, policies, and procedures. Uses hospital information systems skillfully and enforces security-related policies. Assures adequate shift reports by staff and provides shift report to another lead therapist. Avoids crisis management by being proactive on all issues. Establishes realistic goals and time frames for completion of projects. Involves staff in project planning and implementation. Provides patient care as needed Compliance with Patient/Family-Centered Care standards through the following: Demonstrates dignity and respect for patient and family for patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural background in the planning and delivery of care. Provides information sharing, ensuring patients and families receive timely, complete, and accurate information in order to effectively participate in care and decision-making.Required Minimum Education:
- Bachelors Respiratory Care or Masters Respiratory Care-Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor
- PALS - Pediatric Adv Life Support or ARC-PALS - Amer Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS-I - PALS - Instructor or PALS-P - PALS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
