Position Summary
South Seas is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Commercial Pool Cleaner responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, water quality, appearance, and overall condition of the resort's swimming pools and children's aquatic play area at Captiva Landing.
This position performs routine commercial pool cleaning, water testing and chemical balancing, equipment inspections, and preventative maintenance to ensure all assigned aquatic areas remain clean, safe, properly maintained, and guest-ready.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform daily and scheduled cleaning and maintenance of resort swimming pools and assigned aquatic areas.
- Skim pool surfaces and remove leaves, debris, and other materials.
- Vacuum pools using manual or automated pool-cleaning equipment.
- Brush and clean pool walls, floors, tile, steps, drains, and other surfaces as needed.
- Clean and maintain pool filters, baskets, strainers, and related equipment.
- Test pool water regularly for chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and other required water-quality levels.
- Add and adjust pool chemicals as necessary to maintain proper water chemistry and sanitation standards.
- Maintain accurate records of water testing, chemical levels, treatments, and maintenance performed.
- Inspect pumps, filters, valves, piping, circulation systems, and other pool equipment for proper operation.
- Monitor pool water levels and make adjustments as necessary.
- Identify leaks, equipment malfunctions, water-quality concerns, or other maintenance issues and report or address them promptly.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs to pool equipment when qualified to do so.
- Safely handle, store, and use pool chemicals in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain pool-cleaning equipment, tools, supplies, and chemical storage areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Monitor chemical and maintenance supply inventory and communicate replenishment needs to leadership.
- Ensure assigned pools and aquatic areas meet applicable health, safety, and sanitation requirements.
Captiva Landing Children's Aquatic Play Area
- Perform routine cleaning and water-quality maintenance of the children's aquatic play area at Captiva Landing.
- Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of shallow-water play areas and surrounding aquatic surfaces.
- Inspect slides, the dump bucket, drains, and other aquatic play components for cleanliness and visible maintenance or safety concerns.
- Test and maintain appropriate water chemistry and sanitation levels for the aquatic play area.
- Monitor pumps, filtration, circulation, and water-delivery systems serving the aquatic play area for proper operation.
- Remove debris and other materials from the aquatic play area as needed.
- Promptly report damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe slides, play components, equipment, or surfaces to Engineering/Facilities leadership.
- Coordinate with appropriate team members when an aquatic area or component requires repair or needs to be temporarily taken out of service.
Guest Service & Safety
- Maintain a professional appearance and provide courteous service when interacting with resort guests.
- Be mindful of guest activity when performing cleaning or maintenance in occupied pool areas.
- Maintain clean and orderly work areas and minimize disruption to the guest experience.
- Follow all South Seas safety procedures, policies, and chemical-handling requirements.
- Immediately report potential safety hazards or conditions requiring additional attention.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on resort operational needs.
What are we looking for?
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Drivers License. MVR will be checked.
- Previous experience cleaning and maintaining commercial swimming pools strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of pool water chemistry, sanitation, and chemical balancing.
- Knowledge of commercial pool pumps, filtration, circulation systems, and related equipment preferred.
- Ability to properly and safely handle pool chemicals.
- Ability to identify basic pool equipment, water-quality, and maintenance issues.
- Experience using pool vacuums, brushes, water-testing equipment, and other pool-maintenance tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently maintain cleanliness and water-quality standards.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain multiple pool and aquatic areas.
- Dependable and able to respond promptly to pool and aquatic maintenance concerns.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Engineering/Facilities leadership and other resort departments.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial pool maintenance experience in a resort, hotel, condominium, recreation facility, water park, or similar high-volume environment.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.
- Experience maintaining multiple commercial swimming pools or aquatic recreation areas.
- Experience with commercial pool filtration, circulation, and chemical systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull pool chemicals, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around swimming pools, shallow-water aquatic areas, wet surfaces, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in Florida heat, humidity, rain, and other weather conditions.
Schedule
- Full-time, hourly position.
- Must have flexible availability based on resort operational needs.
- Schedule may include early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
- Availability may be required to respond to unexpected pool or aquatic-area maintenance needs.
