Job Description:
Location: Cascade Community Church - Abbotsford.
Position Purpose Summary
The Driver II is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods between The Salvation Army (SA) Distribution Centre (DC), Ministry Units (MUs), donor locations, and other assigned locations. The role also involves the safe collection and delivery of donated materials and supporting warehouse operations as required.
Key Accountabilities
Transportation and Vehicle Operations
- Operate 3- ton commercial vehicles, cube vans, panel vans, and other assigned vehicles safely and in accordance with applicable legislation and The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
- Complete daily vehicle circle checks before departure and conduct ongoing inspections throughout the day, reporting and addressing defects as required.
- Maintain appropriate fuel and fluid levels and ensure vehicles are kept clean, safe, and in good operating condition.
- Maintain required CVOR and other vehicle-related logs in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload goods safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and satisfactory driving record and immediately report any changes, infractions, or incidents to the supervisor.
- Complete required documentation and paperwork accurately and on time.
- Demonstrate strong navigation skills and ensure deliveries and collections are completed efficiently and according to schedule.
Customer and Donor Service
- Represent The Salvation Army professionally and maintain a clean, presentable appearance with visible Salvation Army identification.
- Interact with donors, Ministry Units, clients, suppliers, staff, volunteers, and community members in a friendly, respectful, and service-oriented manner.
- Communicate relevant service concerns, delivery issues, or feedback from Ministry Units, donors, suppliers, and other contacts to the appropriate supervisor.
Distribution Centre and Warehouse Support
- Operate forklifts, hand carts, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized to do so.
- Load, unload, and move food, toys, donations, and other materials within the Distribution Centre, vehicle, warehouse, and yard.
- Build or assist with building skids for delivery.
- Accurately count and verify products and materials being delivered.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe vehicle, warehouse, and yard.
- Perform other warehouse and operational duties as assigned.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Follow The Salvation Army's health and safety policies, the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Ministry of Labour requirements, and all other applicable legislation.
- Report hazards, safety concerns, infractions, vehicle defects, and workplace incidents in accordance with established procedures.
- Use required personal protective and safety equipment.
- Assist with ensuring new employees and volunteers are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to respond appropriately.
- Participate in required training and maintain all necessary certifications.
- Follow The Salvation Army's policies, procedures, Code of Ethics, and Code of Conduct.
General Responsibilities
- Work independently and collaboratively to complete assigned duties efficiently.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Critical Relationship Management
Internal: Staff, management, volunteers, clients, and Ministry Unit personnel.
External: Donors, suppliers, community members, and other service contacts.
The position requires routine interaction with internal and external contacts and the ability to clarify and communicate information effectively.
Managerial/Technical Responsibilities
- Reports directly to the Community Ministries Director.
- No direct reports.
Financial and Material Management
- Responsible for the proper care and use of The Salvation Army's vehicles, equipment, materials, and other organizational assets.
- Uses organizational assets in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
- Has no budget or financial transaction responsibilities.
- May use a fuel credit card for authorized vehicle fueling purposes only.
All responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures, and in a professional manner.
Working Conditions
- May work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions, including freezer environments.
- Requires occasional physical exertion, including lifting, moving, and transporting materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- May occasionally be required to work outside regular business hours or at alternate locations.
- Some local or short-term travel may be required.
- Work schedules may vary during peak or seasonal periods.
Experience and Knowledge
- Minimum one year of safe driving experience.
- Valid full driver's licence for the province of employment.
- Current original Driver's Abstract satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
- Forklift operator certification may be required depending on job duties.
- Strong navigation and route-planning skills.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Work Hours
Part-time position: Saturdays, 4 hours per week, plus statutory holidays and additional hours as required when the regular full-time driver is on vacation or otherwise unavailable.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $21.28 to $26.60 with a maximum of $31.92.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
