Mid-Level Network Engineer

Opportunity

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Mid-Level Network Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.

As a Mid-Level Network Engineer, you will support enterprise and mission-focused network infrastructure environments as part of an integrated Infrastructure organization. The successful candidate will independently execute assigned responsibilities while supporting Development & Integration, Operations & Sustainment, and continuous improvement activities across interconnected infrastructure environments. This role is ideal for an engineer capable of operating independently while remaining adaptable to evolving technologies, environments, and operational requirements.

 

Integrated Infrastructure Awareness: Infrastructure personnel are expected to become operationally familiar with adjacent infrastructure disciplines in order to effectively collaborate, troubleshoot, and support integrated enterprise environments. While each position maintains a primary area of specialization, success within the Infrastructure organization requires an understanding of how interconnected technologies function together to support overall organizational objectives.

Personnel are not expected to be subject matter experts outside of their primary specialty but are expected to develop operational awareness of:

• Network infrastructure and enterprise connectivity concepts
• Compute, virtualization, and supporting infrastructure platforms
• Windows and Linux operating environments
• Cloud and hybrid infrastructure concepts
• Cybersecurity, STIG implementation, and compliance requirements
• Infrastructure automation and orchestration processes
• Documentation, testing, deployment, and sustainment activities

Personnel are expected to leverage this awareness to effectively collaborate across teams, reduce single points of failure, and contribute to the successful delivery and sustainment of integrated infrastructure capabilities.

 

Duties:

• Administer, maintain, and support enterprise network infrastructure environments.
• Configure and support routers, switches, firewalls, VPN technologies, and associated network devices.
• Support VLANs, routing, switching, network segmentation, and enterprise connectivity requirements.
• Troubleshoot network, firewall, VPN, and connectivity-related issues.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, operational procedures, and change records.
• Support network implementations, upgrades, modernization efforts, and technology refresh activities.
• Implement applicable STIG requirements and support compliance activities across supported infrastructure environments.
• Participate in planning, testing, deployment, Operations & Sustainment, and continuous improvement activities supporting integrated environments.
• Coordinate activities with engineers, stakeholders, and supporting teams to ensure successful delivery and sustainment of infrastructure capabilities.
• Participate in after-action reviews and contribute to process improvements and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

• 5-8 years  of experience
• Experience supporting enterprise networking environments.
• Experience with routing, switching, VLANs, segmentation, and network troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with firewall and VPN technologies.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well within a team environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to build automation using Ansible to build network appliances
• Familiarity with virtualization working with vCenter and vSwitching
• Travel: Up to 10%
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• An active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active TS/SCI eligbility clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• Equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.

Physical Job Requirements:

• This position will work in an office, datacenter, and laboratory environment.
• Must be capable of lifting and moving up to 50 lbs., including installation and handling of IT equipment as required.

Desired Skills:

• Cisco, Palo Alto, or equivalent enterprise networking certifications.
• Experience supporting DoD or federal environments.
• Experience with secure network design, network documentation, and change control processes.
• Familiarity with virtualization, cloud, and infrastructure automation concepts.
