The Diagnostics Strategy & Partnering organization drives Roche Diagnostics partnerships including R&D, technology, biomarker, digital and commercial deals of every deal type, world-wide.

Currently, the Diagnostics Partnering group in Pleasanton, California has a Global Diagnostics Partnering Lead position available on the Diagnostics Partnering Strategy and Transactions team. This position sources opportunities, builds and leads deal and diligence teams to evaluate opportunities, and negotiates agreements to access promising partnering candidates across our different business and customer areas.

The Opportunity

  • Deal Sourcing & Negotiation: Source opportunities, build and lead deal and diligence teams to evaluate options, and negotiate agreements to access promising partnering candidates across different business and customer areas.

  • Strategic Opportunity Generation: Perform and provide expertise and thought leadership as part of squad teams to proactively generate strategic opportunities (areas/segments) that contribute to the Roche Diagnostics strategy.

  • Strategy Co-Creation: Co-create strategic partnering WANTs and target product profiles (TPP) with internal stakeholders, aligned with the Roche Diagnostics Strategy.

  • Network & Partnership Pipeline: Generate and secure a continuous flow of attractive partnership options by maintaining a strong internal network (business & customer areas, Life Cycle teams, R&D, networks, regions and affiliates, and global and group functions) and external network (companies, banks, VCs, academic institutions, etc.).

  • Systematic Screening: Proactively conduct systematic screens for suitable technologies, products, digital solutions, and companies in close collaboration with the technology chapter and business stakeholders.

Who You Are

(Required Skills)

One open position, but two potential hiring levels will be determined by experience, qualifications, and the department's skill needs.

  • A minimum of 5-7+ years of experience in business or corporate development, strategy consulting, venture capital, investment banking, or a related field, with broad industry knowledge and a demonstrated track record of leading negotiations. 

Additional Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education & Industry Expertise: You hold an advanced degree in science, engineering, business, legal, or a related field (ideally at a PhD or MBA level) and possess a solid understanding of the Diagnostics industry, including lifecycle processes, development, and global business development trends.

  • Business Development & Deal Track Record: You have background and experience in business or corporate development, strategy consulting, venture capital, investment banking, or a related field and possess broad industry knowledge with a demonstrated track record leading the negotiation of complex business partnerships and transactions (including M&A, Licensing, R&D, and Commercial Collaboration agreements), alongside knowledge of accounting and finance and are experienced in business case and financial model creation for complex transactions and novel product/market opportunities.

  • Leadership & Collaboration: You have demonstrated effective senior leadership communication including presenting complex business proposals for management approval.  You demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills, including a track record of managing multiple high-performing cross-functional teams and projects, while remaining deeply committed to cross-functional collaboration and breaking down silos to achieve the best results for the organization.

  • Strategic Thinking & Communication: You possess strong strategic thinking, analytical, and conceptual problem-solving skills, paired with exceptional written and oral communication abilities to distill complex problems and proposals into clear, succinct decision documents for management and governance bodies.

  • Mindset & Interpersonal Skills: You bring a growth mindset focused on continuous learning, coaching, and mentoring peers, with a proven ability to navigate a changing organization while maintaining objectivity, fairness, open communication, consensus-building skills, and respect for differences of opinion.

Relocation benefits are not available for this posting 

The expected salary range for this position, based on the primary location of Pleasanton, California, is $150,900-$280,200.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
