Position summary

The Assembly Technician independently performs assigned cable, connector, wiring, and electromechanical assembly within demonstrated qualifications. This level requires broader product and process proficiency, the ability to interpret production documents, perform required quality checks, and recognize and escalate quality or process abnormalities with limited supervision.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Includes Entry level duties, performed with greater independence and proficiency, plus:

• Independently set up and perform assigned soldering, crimping, wire preparation, potting, adhesive application, mechanical assembly, and related processes.
• Read and interpret applicable drawings, schematics, bills of material, specifications, and work instructions; use required fixtures, equipment, and measuring tools.
• Verify workmanship and product characteristics against applicable requirements; perform routine troubleshooting only within approved methods.
• Support multiple work areas according to qualifications and production needs; answer routine questions from less-experienced technicians.

Intermediate level expectations

• Complete assigned work with limited supervision and consistently produce conforming product.
• Maintain required qualifications across multiple designated products or processes, including soldering and crimping as applicable.
• Interpret instructions independently; recognize abnormal conditions and know when to stop and escalate.
• Contribute actively to Tier meetings, problem solving, 5S, and improvement activities.

Requirements

Qualifications

Relevant manufacturing or assembly experience sufficient to demonstrate Intermediate level proficiency. Typically two or more years of relevant experience; demonstrated competence may substitute for time in the role. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Required skills and competencies

• Proficiency in applicable soldering, crimping, tools, equipment, and measuring devices.
• Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, procedures, and manufacturing records; working knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles.
• Sound workmanship judgment within approved requirements, accurate documentation, teamwork, and basic computer proficiency.

Physical requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work regularly involves precise use of hands and fingers on small components; visual attention for detailed assembly and workmanship checks; sitting or standing for extended periods; and reaching, bending, and moving within Production. Occasional lifting and carrying of materials, tools, or equipment up to 45 pounds may be required.

Work environment

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment and may involve production equipment, hand and power tools, adhesives, electrical equipment, and moderate noise. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as applicable.
