BASIC FUNCTION:

The Director of Community Engagement and Outreach Initiatives (program director) provides administrative management and strategic direction to the Black Congregations Resource Center’s Preaching Project Compelling Preaching Initiative (BCRC/CPI) program. The aids the Dean (CPI Director), BCRC Director, and Doctor of Ministry Director in executing grant goals and objectives with program outcomes and assessment reporting responsibilities. The Director of role is strategic, administrative, infrastructural, and operational. The program director serves as a brand ambassador for the Black Congregations Resource Center’s Compelling Preaching Initiative (CPI) at Howard University School of Divinity and reports to the Dean/CPI Director and works in collaboration with Administrative Program Coordinator to identify, analyze and document effective preaching, congregational care, and social justice advocacy practices in Black congregations; develop a recruitment campaign to enlist ministry leaders and laity; and increase alumni engagement with HUSD.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Involves the responsibility of enlisting student involvement for podcast support and providing students guidance and direction.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts include Administrative Coordinator, BCRC staff, Dean of Chapel, Finance and Grants Manager, Director of Advancement, Admission, Retention, and Recruitment Coordinator, and graduate students. External contacts include alumni, clergy leaders, church administrators, non-profit leaders and organizations, vendors, consultants, and the general public.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Administrative management of grant-funded program, community-based outreach, congregational visits, recruitment campaign, symposium coordination, and general administration.

  • Research congregations, collects, and prepares background information and data to assist in decision-making and alumni connection.

  • Assists with processes that are part of the regular cycle for building infrastructure to include: capacity-building interventions, meetings, conferences, workshops, and other functions.

  • Builds and maintains a congregations database to include updated information.

  • Identifies public and private donor and sponsorship opportunities.

  • Assists with coordinating seminars, workshops, travel arrangements, special projects, and/or events; may coordinate programs/project development planning.

  • Supports media team in the creation and distribution of digital content, flyers, and brochures; performs basic technological troubleshooting and; assists with other multi-media tasks.

  • Assists in coordinating administrative support functions for the school’s initiatives and program activities, including marketing materials, data entry, word processing, typing of grants, reports, correspondences, and answering telephones (as needed).

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s and Master of Divinity degree required and relevant 2-3 years of executive level administrative experience.

Expected Salary Range: $65,000 - $69,000
