Description
The Research Associate supports research on generational arsenic toxicity in model organism Daphnia and in 2 mammalian cell lines. The position is funded by a grant from the NH-INBRE grant (GR005842) and will involve training and supervision of undergraduate research students, in addition to providing technical and organizational support for the lab and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
(50%)
Perform routine and advanced laboratory techniques (e.g., maintenance of generational algal and Daphnia cultures, microdissection of Daphnia organs, nucleic acid extraction, purification & purification, ICP-ES sample preparation, arsenic and growth media preparation, data analyses associated with RNA sequencing and image processing for emission microscope samples.

Supervise and train undergraduate students conducting research on the associated projects that are directly or indirectly related to the generational arsenic project.
(15%)
Maintaining the cell culture laboratory, growing & splitting mammalian cell lines, cellular assays such as ROS and LDH assays, , immunostaining, and light, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy.
(15%)
Inventory and order supplies, Coordinate care for invertebrate animals (Daphnia) used in the research., Prepare and deliver presentations, disseminating results to the broader scientific community., Some travel is required i.e. to Dartmouth College and University of New Hampshire for use of equipment not available at KSC.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research results to the scientific community; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in data collection and analysis; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff; willingness to wear and use appropriate protective equipment as necessary.
Other Requirements:
Experience with solution preparation, PCR, cloning, and light microscopy.
Experience with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience working with non-mammalian model organisms (e.g., Drosophila, C. elegans, Xenopus, or zebrafish); experience with fluorescence microscopy, as well as digital image acquisition and analysis; experience with fixation and immunostaining approaches for labeling animal tissues; supervisory experience, especially in managing or training student researchers and valid driver’s license.

Compensation Pay Range:
