Position Overview
The Inventory Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate counts of raw materials, packaging supplies, finished goods, and warehouse stock. This role supports production, purchasing, and logistics teams by ensuring the right materials are available at the right time. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate inventory levels of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
- Monitor stock levels and communicate replenishment needs to Purchasing and Production.
- Perform daily cycle counts and participate in monthly/quarterly physical inventories.
- Track incoming and outgoing shipments; verify accuracy of deliveries against purchase orders.
- Organize and label inventory areas for efficient workflow and compliance.
- Prepare inventory reports for management using internal systems (e.g., ERP, spreadsheets).
- Ensure proper rotation of ingredients (FIFO/FEFO) to maintain product quality and food safety.
- Work closely with production to forecast material needs based on schedules and sales orders.
- Assist with waste tracking, returns, and documentation of adjustments.
- Comply with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
- 1–2 years of inventory, warehouse, or supply chain experience (food manufacturing a plus).
- Strong mathematical and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems or ERP software (training available).
- Detail-oriented with strong communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with FIFO, FEFO, and basic food-safety principles.
- Forklift or pallet-jack certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets.
- Prior experience in bakery, food production, or manufacturing.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in cold environments, including coolers and freezers.
- Ability to work safely around food allergens, including chocolate, wheat, dairy, eggs, and tree nuts.
