Master thesis – Development of printed sensors

During the spring of 2027 you will be in Sandviken to learn from the world leaders in materials. 

The assignment 

Alleima Strategic Research is exploring how industrial sensors can be manufactured using a novel printing technology. The thesis will focus on the electrical characterization of electrical and electronic devices, including measurements of current, voltage and capacitance. A key part of the assignment will be to prepare the measurement setup; for example. configure the data acquisition equipment, solder/weld signal wires and experimental planning. The data will be analysed using tools such as Excel, Minitab, Matlab or similar software. Depending on the scope and direction of the project, the work may also include material analysis to further evaluate the printed sensor structures and their performance.  

The location for this assignment is Sandviken, as this is a practical, hands-on assignment. 

Your profile 

We are looking for a student at the Master’s level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Signal Processing, Technical or Industrial Metrology, or from alternative disciplines if the appropriate knowledge has been acquired elsewhere, where you have gained relevant knowledge from courses in electromagnetism, metrology, and basic metallurgy. Applicants with a B. Sc. may be considered if the prerequisites are met. Good written and spoken communication skills in English are required as you must be able to comprehend technical and scientific articles in English, Swedish is a plus. Previous experience in electromagnetic device characterization is meritorious.

Your personal qualities are essential for this role. You see scientific and technical challenges as opportunities to explore rather than as problems or obstacles. You enjoy practical, hands-on work and, after initial training, are comfortable working independently. You are also encouraged to propose alternative approaches or scientific paths when relevant, while documenting all observations meticulously throughout the assignment.
