Position Summary
The Assistant Branch Manager supports the Branch Administration Manager in managing the branch’s daily operations, employee performance, client service, relationship development, and compliance responsibilities. The position helps ensure established service, operational, financial, security, and regulatory standards are consistently achieved; provides direct coaching and supervision to assigned branch employees; resolves elevated client and operational matters; supports deposit, referral, retention, and community engagement objectives; and maintains effective internal controls and audit readiness. The Assistant Branch Manager exercises sound judgment within delegated authority and provides branch leadership in the absence of the Branch Administration Manager.
Essential Functions
Branch Leadership and Employee Development
· Assist with daily leadership of the branch, including staffing, scheduling, work assignment, communication, and service coverage.
· Coach employees on client service, relationship development, operational procedures, risk controls, and performance expectations.
· Support recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management, recognition, and corrective action in coordination with the Branch Manager and Human Resources.
· Promote a respectful, inclusive, accountable, and collaborative work environment.
· Serve as acting Branch Manager and maintain effective branch operations when the Branch Manager is unavailable.
Client Service and Relationship Development
· Deliver knowledgeable, accurate, and courteous service across consumer and business banking interactions.
· Resolve escalated client questions, complaints, account issues, and service exceptions promptly and within delegated authority.
· Identify client needs through effective conversations and connect clients with appropriate Bank products, services, and specialists without engaging in high-pressure sales practices.
· Perform Relationship Banker and transaction-support duties as business needs require, including account opening, maintenance, verification, approvals, and overrides within assigned authority.
· Support branch relationship, deposit, referral, service, and retention goals through ethical and needs-based practices.
· Participate in community, business development, and Bank-sponsored activities as appropriate.
Operations, Risk, and Compliance
· Oversee daily branch controls and procedures, including opening and closing, dual control, cash and vault management, ATM and night depository activities, negotiable instruments, safe deposit operations, transaction review, balancing, and exception handling, as applicable.
· Monitor compliance with Bank policies, internal controls, security procedures, and applicable federal and state banking requirements, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money-laundering, customer identification, sanctions, privacy, fair banking, and record-retention requirements within the scope of the position.
· Maintain audit and examination readiness; complete required reviews, certifications, reports, and corrective actions accurately and on time.
· Identify, escalate, document, and help resolve operational, fraud, security, compliance, and client-risk concerns.
· Protect confidential client, employee, and Bank information and use Bank systems in accordance with information-security and cybersecurity requirements.
· Maintain required branch notices, records, supplies, and security controls.
· Complete required training and remain current on relevant products, procedures, systems, and regulatory expectations.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree
· More than 5 years of progressively responsible retail banking, financial services, or comparable client-service and operations experience.
· Prior experience leading, coaching, or supervising employees.
· Working knowledge of branch operations, transaction controls, cash management, client-service practices, and applicable banking regulations.
· Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, resolve problems, manage competing priorities, and safeguard confidential information.
· Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and basic business-math skills.
· Proficiency with standard business technology and ability to learn core banking, client relationship management, digital banking, and fraud-prevention systems.
· Ability to work the branch schedule, including opening, closing, and occasional weekend or extended hours, based on business needs.
· Ability to satisfy applicable background, bonding, and other employment requirements.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
· Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experience with consumer and small-business deposit products, branch audits, regulatory compliance, fraud prevention, and community business development.
· Notary commission or willingness to obtain one if required for the assigned branch.
