Overview
As the Independent Competent Person (ICP) under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), this role is responsible for maintaining independence from the organisation’s operational functions and has the authority to suspend the use of pressure equipment where safety concerns exist. Working closely with the Asset Integrity Manager, the position supports the management of pressure systems integrity risk across all areas, including safety, operational, maintenance, financial, environmental, legal, reputational and plant risks.
The role provides technical assurance for the integrity management of Centrica’s onshore and offshore assets, leading the Risk-Based Assessment (RBA) and inspection processes while overseeing the Centrica Integrity Management System and associated databases. It also ensures that auditing and competency requirements are effectively delivered within the RBA and inspection team and leads the integrity management audit programme, verifying that risk management strategies are robust and that established procedures remain effective and fit for purpose.
Location – Woodland House, Hull – flexible working with a mix of office and home working
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver compliance with Centrica Engineering Strategy, Technical Standards and Asset Integrity Management System (AIMS).
- Support the Asset Integrity Manager to ensure that technical integrity is maintained within discipline.
- Support the Asset Integrity Manager to ensure SECEs and performance standards are fit for purpose to ensure Major Accident Hazard (MAH) risk is managed.
- Assist the Asset Integrity Manager in developing and maintaining the technical assessment strategy for Centrica onshore and offshore assets.
- Develop and maintain the Centrica Integrity Management System and associated databases.
- Develop and maintain RBA strategies for onshore and offshore plant and equipment inspections, whilst ensuring that emerging damage mechanisms are identified and effectively mitigated.
- Develop and maintain Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) written schemes of examination and inspection workbooks and authorise / countersign inspection reports.
- Deliver remnant life assessments and methodology in accordance with current design codes and best practice, e.g. API, ASME.
- Deliver Pressure Systems Annual Statement of Integrity (ASI).
- Lead and or participate in the investigation, root cause identification, closure of findings and gaps from major defects or deviation from standard and sharing of learning’s from all investigations and RCFAs.
- Participate in the Management of Change (MoC) process as discipline subject matter expert.
- Lead asset integrity compliance audits.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Qualified to degree level in Mechanical and / or Corrosion Engineering, or relevant equivalent.
- Chartered with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, or relevant equivalent.
- API 510 (Vessels), API 570 (Piping) & API 579 (Fitness for Service).
- The ability to maintain and promote a positive HSE culture amongst Centrica colleagues and key vendors.
- Understand the codes and rules of conduct of the profession and is familiar with relevant legislation, e.g., PSSR, Offshore Safety Case Regulations, COMAH Regulations, PFEER, ASME, API.
- Able to apply a creative and pragmatic approach to problem solving and understands the application of new technologies and innovations.
- A proactive and self-starting individual is required who takes the initiative in planning and implementing solutions.
- Proficient with the MS office suite of applications.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload in the face of competing user demands.
- Self-starter with good interpersonal and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels.
