Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Team Lead, Testing Technician (Battery Abuse) to provide hands-on technical leadership in the Battery Abuse laboratory by setting up, performing, and supporting complex tests in accordance with customer requirements, internal procedures, quality standards, and safety expectations. This role ensures test integrity, supports accurate data and reporting, guides Testing Technicians, and serves as a technical resource for customer reviews, issue resolution, and day-to-day lab execution.

 

Our laboratory delivers a complete suite of battery abuse, environmental simulation, electrical and EMC/ESD testing, vibration and mechanical shock evaluations, and advanced specialty services designed to meet the rapidly evolving needs of modern vehicle and component manufacturers.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Interpret customer specifications, internal procedures, test standards, and project requirements to support accurate test planning and execution
  • Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain complex mechanical, electrical, environmental, and data acquisition test equipment
  • Configure instrumentation and data capture systems to ensure accurate, complete, and reliable test data
  • Perform complex battery abuse testing in accordance with approved procedures, safety requirements, customer specifications, and quality system requirements
  • Place and remove test articles from environmental chambers or other test environments in accordance with established standards, specifications, and instructions
  • Construct, maintain, and support calibration readiness of test fixtures, tooling, and laboratory equipment to ensure proper working conditions
  • Monitor test execution, identify issues or deviations, and escalate equipment, safety, quality, or technical concerns to management as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed; analyze test data; and prepare, review, or support generation of final test reports
  • Provide day-to-day work direction, technical guidance, training, and mentoring to Testing Technicians within the Battery Abuse laboratory
  • Help prioritize daily work assignments, coordinate lab resources, and support efficient workflow within the department
  • Support customer test reviews, customer visits, and technical discussions by providing test status, data interpretation, and recommendations for issue resolution
  • Maintain client confidentiality and protect sensitive customer information at all times
  • Perform work in accordance with Element’s internal procedures, quality system, and Health and Safety requirements
  • Support administrative leadership activities, which may include reviewing team member timecards, PTO requests, OKR progress, and performance input as assigned by the Lab Manager or designee

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred) or another relevant area related to discipline preferred or two (2) year associate degree in testing related field. Recognized scientific or engineering qualification
  • 8+ years of significant working experience in a testing environment through which an equivalent level of knowledge has been attained; Li-ion battery testing experience preferred
  • Advanced understanding of testing concepts
  • Perform complex testing
  • Advanced ability to read, analyze, and interpret test and customer specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a range of techniques in a logical and effective manner to develop solutions for technical issues
  • Understanding of a recognized Quality Management Systems such as ISO 17025 is beneficial
  • Ability to construct and maintain test fixtures and other laboratory equipment to ensure proper working order based on client needs
  • Demonstrated experience gathering and recording test data
  • Deep experience with writing and reviewing technical reports and test procedures.
  • Operating, maintaining, and repairing test lab equipment
  • Ability to explain testing data and specifications to a larger group drawing from past experience and knowledge as an expert on the testing specification
  • Demonstrated leadership of initiatives making a recognizable contribution to change and capability development
  • Ability to work with others to understand and resolve complex testing associated with customer requirementsFollow and maintain all safety protocols and housekeeping requirements
