(Behavioral Health Re-Entry Counselor – Adult and Family Services)

Who are we? 

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) is a sovereign tribe located in the metropolitan Phoenix area. Bounded by the cities of Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, and Fountain Hills, the Community serves over 9,000 tribal members, and all people conduct business over approximately 96 square miles of residential, agricultural, and commercial lands, as a full-service government entity. 

SRPMIC Health & Human Services is seeking a dedicated and trauma informed Re-Entry Counselor to provide behavioral health counseling, assessment, and transition planning for individuals incarcerated within the Department of Corrections and Outpatient Counseling. This position focuses on supporting clients as they prepare for release, addressing criminogenic factors, and facilitating a successful return to the community.

Salary Ranges: 
  • Behavioral Health Counselor I – license eligible – $62,007 to 83,706 (Annually)
  • Behavioral Health Counselor II – Associate Level Licensure – $68,450 to 92,407 (Annually)
  • Behavioral Health Counselor III – Independent Level Licensure – $71,866 to 97,015 (Annually)

What do you have?

The ideal candidate is skilled in counseling, culturally responsive practices, and re-entry support, with a passion for reducing recidivism and strengthening community reintegration. Experience with DOC populations, re-entry case management, forensic behavioral health, culturally grounded and strength-based approaches are preferred, but not required.

What does the job look like?
  • Provide individual counseling, addressing behavioral health needs, trauma, substance use, and re-entry readiness.
  • Facilitate group therapy, including STEP IOP re-entry programming.
  • Complete intake assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, and diagnostic screenings. 
  • Develop and update individualized treatment plans.
  • Create comprehensive re-entry plans with clients, including support for housing, employment, medical/behavioral health continuity, cultural/community resources, and probation requirements.
  • Collaborate with Community service providers, and behavioral health partners to support coordinated release planning.
  • Prepare clients for transition by teaching coping skills, decision making strategies, prosocial behaviors, and relapse prevention tools.
  • Participate in re-entry staffing meetings, multidisciplinary team discussions, and case coordinating meetings.

What do you need?
  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related behavioral health field.
  • Arizona licensure or eligibility (LAC, LPC, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT).
  • Knowledge of criminogenic factors, re-entry challenges, trauma-informed care, and cognitive behavioral interventions.
  • Ability to work effectively inside DOC facilities and collaborate with correctional staff.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
