We are seeking a Police Records Technician to process and maintain police department records. In this position, you will respond to information requests from municipal courts, district courts, and the public in accordance with the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA). Beyond standard administrative duties, this role directly supports our operations to reduce crime and enhance quality of life in Durango. 

The Durango Police Department trains, educates, and invests in team members across all levels of our organization. Upon hire, we will facilitate your certification and training in: 
  • Colorado Open Records Act (CORA)  
  • CCIC/NCIC Criminal Justice Information Computer Systems 
  • National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) 
  • Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training
The starting pay for this position is $21.81 per hour, with opportunities for growth up to $30.54 per hour based on long-term growth and performance within the role.

  • Query Colorado and National Crime Information Center (CCIC/NCIC) databases for arrest warrants, stolen property, missing persons, and other sensitive law enforcement information 
  • Compile, edit, and file various police records, including incident and arrest reports, citations, memos, financial records, and crime analysis materials 
  • Respond to open records requests by reviewing and redacting sensitive information in compliance with CORA regulations 
  • Maintain accurate statistics for the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) 
  • Audit and enhance department recordkeeping and information-sharing practices to improve local crime analysis and investigations 
  • Assist department personnel and members of the public with record checks, fee collection, and the dissemination of reports and department policies 
  • Compile and summarize police record data, including serious crime offenses, stolen vehicles, booking sheets, and statistical reports 
  • Answer non-emergency telephone calls and assist visitors at the front service window 
You Have:  
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • A minimum of two years of general clerical experience. Law enforcement setting preferred.

  • Enjoy working with data, staying organized, and keeping detailed records up to date 
  • Build positive interactions with visitors and communicate well across all levels of the organization  
  • Feel confident using Microsoft Office programs and adapting to new digital tools 
  • Can write clean, professional messages and put together basic written reports
