JOB TYPE: Full-Time

REPORTS TO: Program Director
HOURLY RATE: $23.35 - $24.72
WEEKLY HOURS: 35 hours per week; schedule to be discussed with supervisor upon hire

Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (CFL) is a nationally recognized social service organization. CFL's mission is to promote positive outcomes for children and adults in Sunset Park, Brooklyn by providing a comprehensive range of neighborhood-based family and social services.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Childcare Assistance Coordinator helps families access and maintain childcare assistance by screening for eligibility, coordinating enrollments, supporting childcare providers, conducting recertifications, maintaining case records, and connecting families to childcare and other community resources. The role also tracks program data, collaborates with partners and stakeholders, and supports program outreach and advocacy efforts.
I. RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with agency staff and community service providers to identify families in need of childcare assistance
- Screen families for eligibility utilizing a standardized tool and complete applications
- Enroll childcare providers in the program and assist them in enrolling children
- Build knowledge/expertise of the NYC childcare landscape in Brooklyn to assist families to connect with childcare as needed
- Determine the appropriate childcare type and setting to meet the family’s eligibility and needs
- Conduct yearly recertifications for continuing eligibility and enrollment
- Utilize excellent communication skills to engage families and childcare providers, troubleshoot, and assist them with successfully using assistance
- Conduct visits to childcare providers
- Provide information or referrals for childcare for families who are not deemed eligible for assistance through the project
- Refer all families to CFLSP Benefits Access & Enrollment team, and to other CFLSP programs and resources as needed
- Collaborate with the fiscal department to track and distribute funds
- Track childcare enrollment and recertification
- Maintain project data
- Create and maintain case records for each family and provider
- Attend meetings with the project team, funder, and stakeholders
- Participate in advocacy efforts as requested
II. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree or high school with relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin
- Experience in community engagement or other forms of direct service
- Knowledge of the NYC childcare landscape or willingness to learn
- Excellent telephone and email etiquette
- Proficient in data entry and MS Office tools: Word and Excel
- Demonstrated cultural competence with immigrant communities
- Friendly, highly dependable, and flexible

- Build and maintain close, daily interactions with co-workers and supervisors
- Effectively communicate with families and outside agency staff
- Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work requires being in an office on-site, sitting at a desk, and using a computer and telephone
- Some travel is required to engage with families, childcare providers, and community service providers, and to attend advocacy-related events
- Flexibility to work occasional evening hours to accommodate families’ availability.

V. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Childcare Specialist utilizes high-level interpersonal and problem-solving skills to identify and screen families for childcare assistance, assist in connecting families with childcare providers as needed, track enrollment, and maintain project data.
