Role summary:As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle with a focus on cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. The team collaborates closely with data scientists, business partners, and systems engineers to develop next-generation applications and analytics tools for a predictive intelligence platform. Focused on delivering real-time predictive analysis and scalable backend solutions, the team emphasizes clear design reasoning, continuous feedback, and innovation. Members participate in design and code reviews, apply cloud-native architecture principles, and lead medium-to-large projects. The environment encourages technical growth, teamwork, and customer-centric development, leveraging skills in software design, API development, debugging, and data-driven decision-making to create impactful, reliable software solutions.
What you'll do:
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
- Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features using multiple programming languages.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
What you'll bring:
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
- Strong proficiency in Java and other programming languages such as Python for AI/ML integration and software development.
- Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
- Ability to conduct system design reviews and apply software design patterns to ensure quality and maintainability.
- Skilled in API design, software prototyping, and debugging to deliver robust platform capabilities.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and data-driven decision making to optimize engineering processes.
- Effective collaboration and mentorship abilities to foster technical growth and team success.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
