Job Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the rebuilding, repair, and manufacturing of parts and equipment assigned to the Central Machine Shop (CMS) and other designated locations. This role supervises the maintenance and operation of CMS facilities and equipment, ensures safe and efficient shop activities, and directs the execution of special projects to support operational objectives. The position also requires a strong technical understanding of industrial repair and maintenance operations to provide effective leadership, troubleshooting, and oversight of shop personnel and processes.

Job Description Overview:

The CMS Production Support Supervisor (Department Head) is responsible for the direct leadership and oversight of daily operations within assigned departments at the Central Machine Shop (CMS). This position provides leadership in safety, workforce management, work prioritization, production planning, and the successful execution of critical repairs for AEP Generation and Energy Delivery Transmission equipment. The role also supports the development and expansion of CMS's external customer base while ensuring exceptional customer service and project execution.

As a key member of the CMS leadership team, the Production Support Supervisor drives operational excellence through a strong commitment to safety, productivity, quality, employee engagement, and continuous improvement. This position serves as a critical link between Front Line Supervisors and the Production Manager, ensuring alignment of departmental objectives with CMS strategic goals.

What You'll Do:

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Operations

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership for assigned production departments, ensuring safe and efficient execution of daily activities.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish work priorities, allocate resources, and coordinate manpower scheduling to meet customer and business commitments.
  • Monitor production performance and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve operational objectives.
  • Support the development and execution of departmental goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business initiatives.

Project and Resource Management

  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, forecasting, and resource allocation activities.
  • Develop and review project estimates, budgets, labor forecasts, and scope commitments.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, and schedule performance to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate support for critical repairs impacting AEP Generation, Renewable, Hydro, Fossil, and Energy Delivery assets.
  • Assist with identifying future workload requirements and workforce development needs.

Financial and Business Management

  • Track and monitor multiple business metrics supporting operational and strategic objectives.
  • Enter and maintain project information, customer data, budget allocations, and cost tracking systems.
  • Monitor departmental financial performance and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Support efforts to expand external business opportunities and strengthen customer relationships.

Workforce Development and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Front Line Supervisors and hourly employees.
  • Ensure employees receive appropriate technical training, cross-training, and development opportunities to support evolving business needs.
  • Promote employee engagement and readiness for nontraditional and emerging work scopes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and standardization.
  • Ensure standard work processes are developed, documented, implemented, and sustained throughout the organization.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with customers, project managers, engineering personnel, and other stakeholders to successfully execute projects.
  • Support CMS's mission of providing industry-leading repair services while expanding business opportunities beyond traditional work scopes.

Organizational Responsibility

The Production Support Supervisor directly manages and develops three Front Line Supervisors with oversight responsibility for four specialized departments:

  • Machine Shop
  • Turbine Shop
  • Welding Services
  • Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)

The position provides leadership for more than thirty highly skilled hourly employees responsible for critical repairs and services supporting AEP Generation, Energy Delivery, Renewable, Hydro, Fossil, and external customer assets.

What You'll Need:

Education: Bachelor's or associate degree in technical field or equivalent applied knowledge (see experience).


Experience: Bachelor's and 4 years of power plant experience; or associate's degree and 6 years' power plant experience; or high school diploma/GED and 8 years of power plant experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demand level is Sedentary

The Production Supervisor must be available to work overtime, including extended hours, weekends, and emergency callouts, as needed to support production demands, equipment repairs, maintenance activities, and special projects.

$98,993.00 - $128,688.00
