This non-permanent position will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12-month period.
The typical number of hours for this position will not exceed 25 hours/week.
Classes this position would be teaching are Sports for Tots, Potpourri of Sports, and Itty Bitty Basketball.
Candidates selected for hire must successfully pass the following:
• AZDPS/FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Check
• Ability to obtain a CPR/First-Aid Certification within 90 days

ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary
Youth Sports Class Instructor ensures all activities, drills, and equipment are age-appropriate and well-maintained, and plans and implements age-appropriate lesson plans centered on fundamental skills in various sports. Models patience, and enthusiasm to build self-confidence and teamwork. Follows appropriate emergency procedures to protect the well-being of participants. Communicates with parents.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach creative, age-appropriate dance classes for youth ages 2-12 years
- Plan engaging weekly lesson plans and choreograph routines
- Cultivate a supportive, safe, and positive classroom environment that encourages growth and teamwork
- Communicate effectively with parents
- Ensure safety of all students during class hours and manage room dynamics
- Responsible for supervising 6-15 participants
- Develop a syllabus for each class
- Ensure proper equipment monitoring
- Models sportsmanship and helps children reframe mistakes as learning opportunities
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
This position entails various day and evening classes as well as Saturdays at Recreation Centers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: 6 months Post-High School
Work Experience: One (1) year of relevant experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in the field of sports instruction
Experience working in a recreation center setting with participants ranging in age from three (3) to fifteen (15)
Experience in structuring a 45-minute sport activity with a group of at least 12 participants
