Summary:
The primary duties of SPA Peer Advisors include but are not limited to advising SPA students (mainly first and second-year students) on basic questions such as schedule building and registration (e.g., your favorite SPA professor, your favorite SPA courses so far), graduation planning, AU Core requirements, university requirements, and choosing a major/minor. Peer advisors also assist in event planning and presentation and pre-registration activities including intakes, walk-ins, advising triage, workshops, campus outreach, and preparation for registration clearance.
Compensation:
$18.40 an hour.
Education and Experience:
At least sophomore standing.
Competitive GPA.
Past leadership experience.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Interest in counseling/advising.
5 hours per week availability for work during the school year (M-F, preferably between the hours of 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST), with occasional events outside of standard working hours.
One academic year commitment to position.
Availability to train during August, prior to the start of the semester.
Sensitivity working with confidential information
Preferred Qualifications:
Involved in SPA and AU campus life and knowledgeable of campus resources and activities.
Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and self-directed.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with public speaking and small group facilitation and desire to improve presentation skills.
Strong communication and listening skills.
Experience writing newsletters and/or other publications.
