Provides advanced clinical expertise, expert knowledge, complex decision-making and the clinical competencies necessary to support nurses caring for patients at the bedside, drives practice change, and ensures the use of best practices and evidence-based care across the organization.Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilizes the nursing process to plan and coordinate interventions and evaluate care for patients and families. Assists with the management of complex health care needs and coordination of the interdisciplinary health care team.
- Participates in the design and maintenance of systems of care, including structured care methodologies (Care Pathways, guidelines, protocols, etc.)
- Serves as an expert consultant for nursing staff and other members of interprofessional team in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional developement. Contributes to defining, directing and evaluating the nursing care and functions of clinical staff.
- Acts as a change agent at the organizational, cross-continuum, and system-wide levels. Integrates information and data to better ensure optimal clinical outcomes.
- Leads quality and performance improvement initiatives. Assists with the development of new programs and clinical initiatives.
- Facilitates the development of organization as a learning health system through systems thinking, critical appraisal, and sharing of key learnings across departments and settings. Serves as a leader and facilitator of change, coordinates specialized care, and implements evidence-based care.
- Ensures organization-wide evidence based practices through the systematic evaluation of current practice, interpretation and utilization of best evidence and research findings, and serves on research teams as requested.
- Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to advanced clinical nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
EXPERIENCE
- Five years' registered nurse experience in area of clinical specialization
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
