Risk Advisory, Investigations, Compliance & Privacy, Vice President

What you’ll do

We are seeking a Vice President to join our Shanghai team, with a focus on investigations, compliance and privacy matters in China and across the Asia-Pacific region. This is a hands-on, client-facing role for an experienced professional who can structure complex issues, lead day-to-day delivery and translate regulatory, legal and business requirements into practical recommendations.

The successful candidate will work with senior AlixPartners leaders and multidisciplinary teams on sensitive and time-critical engagements. The role will suit someone who combines sound judgement, strong analytical capability and disciplined project execution with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.

• Support and manage investigations into allegations of fraud, misconduct, bribery and corruption, conflicts of interest, regulatory breaches, data misuse and other business-integrity concerns. 
• Plan and execute investigative workstreams, including document review, data analysis, transaction testing, open-source research, interview preparation and evidence synthesis. 
• Develop clear, evidence-based findings and recommendations for legal counsel, compliance leaders, boards, audit committees and senior management. 
• Support compliance risk assessments, programme reviews, remediation and transformation initiatives across areas such as anti-bribery and corruption, third-party risk, conflicts of interest, whistleblowing and financial crime compliance. 
• Assess governance arrangements, policies, procedures, controls and operating models, identifying practical opportunities to strengthen design and execution. 
• Advise clients on privacy and data-governance matters, including compliance assessments, data-mapping and gap analyses, incident response support, cross-border data considerations and privacy programme enhancement. 
• Translate applicable regulatory expectations and legal requirements into workable controls, governance structures and implementation plans for clients operating in China and the wider region. 
• Manage engagement workplans, budgets, risks and deliverables, coordinating effectively with clients, external counsel, forensic technology specialists, data professionals and other advisers. 
• Draft high-quality reports, presentations and other client materials that communicate complex issues with precision, balance and appropriate sensitivity. 
• Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders and contribute to proposals, client discussions, thought leadership and market-development activities. 
• Coach and supervise junior team members, provide constructive feedback and contribute to the development of the practice's methodologies and capabilities. 
• Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, independence, professional ethics and quality in all client work.

What you’ll need 

• Approximately 8 years of relevant experience in investigations, compliance, privacy, risk advisory, forensic accounting, legal, regulatory or a related professional-services environment. 
• Demonstrated experience delivering investigations or compliance engagements, including responsibility for workstreams, analysis, client outputs and stakeholder coordination. 
• Working knowledge of corporate investigations, business ethics and compliance frameworks, with the ability to handle sensitive information and assess evidence objectively. 
• Experience with privacy, data protection or data-governance requirements, preferably including familiarity with China's Personal Information Protection Law, Data Security Law and Cybersecurity Law, as well as cross-border data considerations. 
• Strong project-management skills, including the ability to prioritise competing demands, manage deadlines and maintain quality under pressure. 
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capability, with a structured approach to ambiguous or incomplete information and a focus on pragmatic outcomes. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. 
• Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese; the ability to work effectively in both languages in a professional environment is required. 
• A bachelor's degree or higher in law, accounting, finance, economics, business, information security, data privacy or another relevant discipline. 
• A collaborative, low-ego working style, sound professional judgement and a commitment to integrity, confidentiality and high-quality client service. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin.
• Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, and in particular as unique projects/needs arise.
• Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday
