Enterprise Architect

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an Enterprise Architect to support the Department of Transportation’s Enterprise IT Shared Services (EITSS) program. The Enterprise Architect plays a critical role in defining and maintaining the strategic technical blueprint for DOT’s Common Operating Environment (COE), ensuring enterprise systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and end user services operate cohesively and align with DOT’s mission, federal requirements, and modernization objectives.

This role guides the architectural vision for DOT’s multi‑tower IT environment—including infrastructure, cloud, network, cybersecurity, and enterprise applications—to drive system integration, standardization, and long-term sustainability.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Develop and maintain the enterprise architecture framework and standards supporting DOT’s COE, including current-state assessments, future-state models, and life cycle management and modernization roadmaps.
• Provide architectural oversight across all EITSS service towers, ensuring alignment of infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, end user operations, and program governance.
• Lead the design and standardization of enterprise infrastructure solutions including server hosting, core networking, cloud environments, and system administration architectures.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to incorporate security-by-design principles into architectures and delivery improvement recommendations, ensuring compliance with DOT policies, federal requirements, data segmentation and risk management guidelines.
• Support cloud migration strategies, hybrid architecture designs, and application modernization initiatives across DOT’s distributed enterprise.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and platforms to support innovation, automation, scalability, and operational efficiency and recommend new products and technologies across all layers of the enterprise architecture.
• Participate in site surveys at proposed installation sites to determine architecture designs and conceptual architectural alternatives, design options, operational assessments, and post deployment evaluations.
• Define architectural standards, reference models, governance processes, and configuration baselines for enterprise systems in coordination with DOT technology standards groups and design architectsProvide guidance for enterprise data flows, integration strategies, and system dependencies across DOT offices and more than 200 field locations.

• Review and validate technical designs, change requests, and implementation plans for compliance with enterprise architecture and COE requirements.
• Work closely with program leadership to support planning, strategic initiatives, and enterprise-wide technology decisions.
• Assess performance metrics and incident/problem tickets and recommend improvements to technologies, tools and processes.
• Produce architectural diagrams, configurations, documentation, white papers, and technical presentations to communicate design concepts and recommended solutions.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field and 12 years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or related technical leadership roles OR Master's degree with 10 years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or related technical leadership roles.
• Proven experience designing and integrating complex enterprise systems, infrastructure, and networks.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, enterprise operations, and cloud technologies.
• Experience supporting large-scale or federal IT environments.
• Familiarity with ITIL-based service delivery and enterprise service management tools.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
• US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Industry certifications such as TOGAF,  Zachman, or equivalent, AWS or MS Azure cloud solution architect.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, and hybrid cloud architecture.

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
