We're Hiring: 1:1 Paraprofessional- The Bancroft School

Location: Mountainside, NJHours: 8:30a-3:30p - M-F  Pay:  $23.12-$25.48/ hr.

The Lead Paraprofessional provides direct classroom support to teachers and students, helping to implement individualized educational programs that meet each student’s academic, behavioral, and developmental needs. This role works closely with teachers and clinical staff to support instruction, promote student independence, and maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment. The Lead Paraprofessional also serves as a liaison between paraprofessional staff and administration, helping to ensure consistent communication, alignment with school procedures, and effective team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in planning and delivering instruction aligned with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and state educational standards
• Assist in assessing student abilities and implementing individualized lesson plans and activities
• Provide direct support to students in academic, social, vocational, and daily living skills while encouraging independence
• Monitor, document, and report student progress, behavior, and performance data
• Maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment; support behavior management and crisis intervention as needed
• Assist with classroom setup, instructional materials, and equipment usage
• Accompany and support students during school activities, including transitions, meals, and field trips
• Complete required documentation such as progress notes, incident reports, and behavioral tracking
• Communicate effectively with teachers, clinical staff, families, and other stakeholders to support student success
• Substitute for the teacher when needed (with appropriate certification)
• Participate in training, professional development, and required certifications
• Respond to emergencies and follow all safety and crisis intervention procedures
• Perform physical care duties as needed (e.g., lifting, positioning, personal care support)
• Serve as a liaison between paraprofessionals and administration, including attending meetings, sharing updates, and reinforcing protocols and expectations
• Model professionalism, ethical behavior, and organizational core values in all interactions

 

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience in an educational setting; OR
• Minimum of 30 college credits with 6 months of related experience; OR
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of instructional strategies and programs for students with learning, behavioral, and physical disabilities
• Ability to support behavior management and implement crisis intervention techniques
• Basic math and data tracking skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
• Ability to adapt to change, manage stress, and demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver’s license with at least one year of driving experience
• Minimum age of 18
