Position Summary
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial, institutional, transportation, infrastructure, and public works electrical construction projects. The Estimator will review plans and specifications, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, and assist in developing complete project proposals. This role works closely with project managers, operations personnel, suppliers, and clients to ensure bids are accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with project requirements.
Job Description
Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents.
Perform detailed electrical quantity takeoffs for power, lighting, fire alarm, communications, and low-voltage systems.
Develop labor, material, and equipment cost estimates.
Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
Prepare bid summaries and proposal documentation.
Analyze project risks, scope gaps, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities.
Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
Assist with preparing bid packages for public and private sector projects.
Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and vendor relationships.
Coordinate with operations and project management teams to develop competitive pricing strategies.
Support project turnover activities following contract award.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of electrical estimating experience with an electrical contractor.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred. HS Diploma/equivalent required.
Knowledge of electrical systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis.
Proficiency with estimating software such as Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Experience
Experience estimating projects in the NYC metropolitan area.
Knowledge of public agency projects, including MTA, Port Authority, NYC Transit, DOT, or airport-related work.
Exposure to union labor environments and prevailing wage projects.
Experience with design-build and hard-bid procurement methods.
