Role Summary

This role is responsible for executing on the strategy for Line and Base Maintenance, Fleet Services, Ground Service Equipment (GSE), and Shop operations at Horizon Air. As a people leader, the Manager Line/Base Maintenance leads and establishes priorities for the team to deliver safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance operations while ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft released from maintenance and compliance with all Horizon, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and government regulations.

Key Duties

  • Lead team and establish priorities for day-to-day operations across Portland (PDX) Maintenance, Portland Line (PDR), Fleet Services, Ground Service Equipment (GSE), support shops, and out stations.

  • Execute on strategy to ensure safe maintenance operations and compliance with all Horizon, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and government safety rules and regulations, including the airworthiness of all aircraft released from maintenance.

  • Make decisions related to assigned maintenance operations to maintain high standards of performance in safety, compliance, reliability, quality, and cost.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, growing the skills and capabilities of supervisors and the Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) team, managing performance across the team, and balancing team capacity and priorities.

  • Shape culture of team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.

  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance work plans with the Planning department and other managers and supervisors to support effective and efficient operations.

  • Provide input on and assess Safety Management System (SMS) policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to the current union contract, company and department policies, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Oversee administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), working with the union to ensure compliance and overseeing the grievance process as required.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required                  

  • 5 years of experience in aircraft maintenance operations, such as line maintenance, base maintenance, maintenance planning, maintenance production, or a combination of these areas.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training or experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Must hold a mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
  • Must meet the recent experience requirements of 14 CFR 65.83, including at least six months of qualifying mechanic, technical supervision, or aircraft maintenance oversight experience within the preceding 24 months.
  • Strong working knowledge of operating and maintenance manuals used to govern aircraft maintenance operations under 14 CFR Part 121.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable maintenance and airworthiness requirements under 14 CFR, including Parts 1, 21, 25, 43, 45, 47, 65, 91, 119, and 121.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Possesses a valid passport and can travel without restriction to Canada and Mexico.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Technical knowledge of maintaining Embraer E175 aircraft.
  • Knowledge of the IBT CBA for Horizon Air Technicians and related employees, along with labor relations skills.
  • Experience coordinating scheduled maintenance work plans and balancing operational priorities.
  • Experience leading aircraft maintenance teams in a unionized work environment.
  • Experience with Safety Management System (SMS) policies, procedures, or processes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance work plans and balancing operational priorities related to safety, compliance, reliability, quality, and cost.
  • Experience working within a maintenance program governed by 14 CFR Part 121.
  • Experience with Safety Management System (SMS) policies, procedures, or processes.

$115,600 - $173,400 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
