What we are looking for:
ODF is looking for a Forest Manager 1 (Forest Resources Manager) to Provide leadership through operational oversight, coordination and direction of Forest Resource Program activities for The Dalles Unit of the Central Oregon District within the Department of Forestry. These goals and associated duties include:
Maintaining political and operational relationships with Local, State and Federal Agencies, cooperators, contractors and landowners.
Overseeing all programmatic functions administered within the Forest Resources Program in the Unit's geographical area as assigned by the Unit Forester.
Supervising, directing, and monitoring the work of skilled, technical, and professional employees assigned to the program.
The position also serves an important function in the Agency’s fire protection responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc., which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation;
OR
Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field AND two (2) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, or forest management which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.
Note: Driver’s License Check – This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for official State business. As part of the hiring process, the agency uses Advanced Reporting LLC to conduct all required DMV and CDL driving‑record checks. Advanced Reporting LLC will obtain and review the driving record for the top candidate to verify possession of a valid license and an acceptable driving record.

Working knowledge of the Forest Practices Act.
Experience with grant management including application development, administration, budget tracking, accomplishment reporting and/or monitoring.
Experience with coordination between numerous interagency partners on cross boundary project planning and public outreach activities.
Experience interpreting state and federal laws and policies that are used to inform potential activities for implementation in the Forest Resources Program.
Experience making decisions involving personnel management including discipline, scheduling, hiring.
Skills in team building, interpersonal relationships, mentoring and employee support/empowerment.
Experience in, understanding of, and ability to support ODF’s Fire Protection Program, both locally and statewide.

Salary Determination:
Per the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis for starting salary will be conducted to determine what pay step the successful candidate will be offered.
